Power And Comming

kjv@2Peter:1:16 @ For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Most readers trip over the phrase "cunningly devised fables" upon inquiry into this sentence, when what should really be it's focal point should the phrase "power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ". Which of the two are most people more afraid of? being deceived by a cunningly devised fable? or being witness to the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ? The answer is rarely as simple and forthcoming as it should be.

Practical Aspects:

Jesus holds a peculiar position in this world's timeline: having been before the beginning/having come/His influence being still present/soon to return (it can be added to have reigned all along/to reign afresh ever more). If to consider what is meant by His power, the consideration properly should begin right here. For such a peculiar position to be true it is required that He have such omnipotent power. Unless one of us were afforded the opportunity step back from the impositions of the segmented time line and see it this distributed power gathered as solid whole we would have a much lessoned ability to see and even confirm that such an omnipotence is indeed there. We would be limited to the exhibition of such evidence at this particular time. At this present segment the evidence would be left to the exhibition of the influence over His patiently faithful servants. How well are you exhibiting the influential power of His coming/presence/soon return?

There is an interesting human trait observed that played out in the gospel accounts regarding how people responded to Jesus. The people of the region surrounding Jesus "saw a great light" it is written. At first it was a public curiosity; "I hear He has done miracles for others", "I wonder if He can do a miracle for me", thousands came and brought others to find out. Suddenly when He was doing healing miracles for any and all that were brought to Him to the tune of thousands a day (this like no other man before Him or since) then the trait became for them to back off/begin to despise the light for what it is revealing to them about themselves/their own hearts and intents. The problem became not what the Son of God was able to do for them (what He was able to do was unfathomable and unexplainable powerful), it was what in doing so it revealed about them. Jesus was rejected and in so doing the many legitimate and powerful things that He did in the presence and eyesight of all the people of that region became suspicious of cunning and fable (almost as a means of self defence).

Peter and his fellow Apostles went on to make known the power of the Lord's coming in that day. Many there had seen and had experience first hand with this power as it effected their healing or their astonishment and so the knowing of what this power and coming spiritually meant to what was being revealed by it in the darker recesses of their hearts was the effort being placed. From that the power of true spiritual repentance and regeneration, of Christ's clearly defined salvation and redemption, of a new highly influence view point and approach to problems, of ministry and helps and evangelism, un-human often endurances of persecution came forth that swept the region like a wild fire; further evidences of His stated power. Today testimonies continue as to this power especially in places of the world/life it would be least expected; the power of having come/having influence over still/the motivating hope of His soon return.

As professing servants/apostles of Jesus Christ to this day and age what is it that we are making known as to the power of this having come/having influence over still/the motivating hope of His soon return? Is it that we are able to figure this all out? that by our own initiative and resource that we are able to make somewhat of an impact? that we are established Christians even though we are yet unestablished in the obtained faith/virtue/knowledge/temperance/patience/godliness/brotherly kindness/agape love form so eloquently exhorted by our much esteemed and venerated St. Peter? Quite frankly yes. That is most all of the power that we are making known to this present age. Reason being: "Influence", the lack thereof.

Peter you'll recall said "if these things be in you and abound...".

The FolpfApp1 resource is a simple grid collecting the elements of Peter's discourse to be used in stirring up self examination and remembrance of the better founded faith. For our online users the body is blank for the leadings of the Holy Spirit as being affirmed by the column and row headers linked to the wealth of scripture gathering around them. For our offline users it is like a journal to notate where His influence is welcomed and sought. Please utilize this at this time to stir your consideration of what/whose power and coming we are making known presently.
