Luke:8:40-56




tcent@Luke:8:40 @ Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.

tcent@Luke:8:41 @ And behold, there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus' feet and begged him to come to his house,

tcent@Luke:8:42 @ for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

tcent@Luke:8:43 @ And a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years and could not be healed by anyone,

tcent@Luke:8:44 @ came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood stopped.

tcent@Luke:8:45 @ And Jesus said, »Who touched me?« When all denied it, Peter said, »Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!«

tcent@Luke:8:46 @ But Jesus said, »Someone touched me; for I know that power has gone out from me.«

tcent@Luke:8:47 @ When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed.

tcent@Luke:8:48 @ And he said to her, »Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.«

tcent@Luke:8:49 @ While he was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue's house and said, »Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.«

tcent@Luke:8:50 @ But Jesus on hearing this answered him, »Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be well.«

tcent@Luke:8:51 @ When he came into the house he permitted no one to go in with him except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl.

tcent@Luke:8:52 @ Now all were wailing and mourning for her; but he said, »Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.«

tcent@Luke:8:53 @ And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.

tcent@Luke:8:54 @ But he took her by the hand and called, saying, »Child, arise.«

tcent@Luke:8:55 @ Then her spirit returned, and she got up at once. And he directed that something should be given her to eat.

tcent@Luke:8:56 @ And her parents were astonished, but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.
