Faith stands the test of fire better than gold, but even gold is refined by fire. {That might be found} (\hina heurethi\). Purpose clause with \hina\ and the first aorist passive subjunctive of \heurisk\, common verb, to find. As in kjv@2Peter:3:14|, this is the result of the probation by God as the Refiner of hearts. {Unto praise and glory and honour} (\eis epainon kai doxan kai timn\). Literally, "in the flame of fire of a bush" (two genitives, \puros\ and \batou\ dependent on \phlogi\, flame). Descriptive genitives as in 9:15; kjv@2Thessalonians:1:8|. \Batos\ (bush) is the wild acacia (_mimosa nilotica_). In kjv@Exodus:3:20| it is Jehovah who speaks. Hence "angel" here with Stephen is understood to be the Angel of the Presence, the Eternal Logos of the Father, the Angel of Jehovah.
