lesserot Exodus:1:1-2:10

lesserot@Exodus:1:1 @ Now these are the names of the children of Israel, that came into Egypt with Jacob, every man and his household they came.

lesserot@Exodus:1:2 @ Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

lesserot@Exodus:1:3 @ Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

lesserot@Exodus:1:4 @ Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

lesserot@Exodus:1:5 @ And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls; together with Joseph who was already in Egypt.

lesserot@Exodus:1:6 @ And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

lesserot@Exodus:1:7 @ And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

lesserot@Exodus:1:8 @ Now there rose up a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.

lesserot@Exodus:1:9 @ And he said unto his people: Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and mightier than we.

lesserot@Exodus:1:10 @ Come, let us deal wisely with them lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there happen to be a war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and depart out of the land.

lesserot@Exodus:1:11 @ And they set over taskmasters, to afflict them with their burdensome labors; and they built treasure cities, for Pharaoh, Pithom and Raamses.

lesserot@Exodus:1:12 @ But in the measure that they afflicted them, so they multiplied and so they spread out; and they felt abhorrence because of the children of Israel.

lesserot@Exodus:1:13 @ And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to labor with rigor:

lesserot@Exodus:1:14 @ And they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar, and in bricks, and in all manner of labor in the field; in all their service, wherein they made them labor with rigor.

lesserot@Exodus:1:15 @ And the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah;

lesserot@Exodus:1:16 @ And he said: When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, ye shall look upon the birth; if it be a son, then shall ye kill him; but if it be a daughter, then may she live.

lesserot@Exodus:1:17 @ But the midwives feared God, and they did not as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but saved the men–children alive.

lesserot@Exodus:1:18 @ And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and he said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men–children alive?

lesserot@Exodus:1:19 @ And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively; ere the midwife cometh in unto them they are delivered.

lesserot@Exodus:1:20 @ And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

lesserot@Exodus:1:21 @ And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

lesserot@Exodus:1:22 @ And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

lesserot@Exodus:2:1 @ And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took a daughter of Levi.

lesserot@Exodus:2:2 @ And the woman conceived, and bore a son; and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

lesserot@Exodus:2:3 @ And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him a box of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it amidst the flags by the brink of the river.

lesserot@Exodus:2:4 @ And his sister placed herself afar off, to ascertain what would be done to him.

lesserot@Exodus:2:5 @ And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the side of the river; and when she saw the box among the flags, she sent her maid and fetched it.

lesserot@Exodus:2:6 @ And she opened it, and saw the child, and, behold, it was a weeping boy; and she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

lesserot@Exodus:2:7 @ Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse for thee the child?

lesserot@Exodus:2:8 @ And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go; and the maiden went and called the mother of the child.

lesserot@Exodus:2:9 @ And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take away this child, and nurse him for me, and I will give thee thy wages; and the woman took the child, and nursed him.

lesserot@Exodus:2:10 @ And the child grew up, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became to her as a son; and she called his name Moses; and she said, Because out of the water have I drawn him.
