rotherham@Genesis:31:1 @ Then heard he the words of the sons of Laban, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that belonged to our father; Yea out of what belonged to our father, hath he made all this wealth.
rotherham@Genesis:31:2 @ And Jacob looked upon the face of Laban, and lo! it was not with him as afore-time.
rotherham@Genesis:31:3 @ Then said Yahweh unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers and to thy kindred, that I may be with thee.
rotherham@Genesis:31:4 @ So Jacob sent, and called for Rachel and for Leah, to the field unto his flock;
rotherham@Genesis:31:5 @ and said to them, Beholding, am I the face of your father, that it is not towards me as aforetime, nevertheless, the God of my father, hath been with me;
rotherham@Genesis:31:6 @ and, ye, know that with all my vigour, have I served your father.
rotherham@Genesis:31:7 @ But, your father, hath deceived me, and hath changed my wages ton times, yet God hath not suffered him to deal harmfully with me.
rotherham@Genesis:31:8 @ If thus he saith, The speckled, shall be thy wages, then do all the flock bring forth speckled, But if thus he saith, The ring-straked, shall be thy wages, then do all the flock bring forth ring-straked.
rotherham@Genesis:31:9 @ So hath God stripped away the herds of your father, and given them to me.
rotherham@Genesis:31:10 @ And it came to pass in the season when the flock were in heat, then lifted I mine eyes and beheld in a dream, and lo! the he-goats that were leaping upon the flock, were ring-straked speckled and dappled.
rotherham@Genesis:31:11 @ And the messenger of God said unto me in a dream, Jacob! and I said, Behold me!
rotherham@Genesis:31:12 @ Then he said Lift, I pray thee, thine eyes and behold All, the he-goats that are leaping upon the flock are ring-straked, speckled, and dappled, for I have seen all that Laban, has been doing to thee.
rotherham@Genesis:31:13 @ I, am the GOD of Beth-el, where thou didst anoint a pillar, where thou didst vow to me a vow, Now, rise, go forth out of this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
rotherham@Genesis:31:14 @ Then responded Rachel and Leah, and said to him, Have we any longer a portion or an inheritance in the house of our father?
rotherham@Genesis:31:15 @ Are we not accounted, aliens, to him seeing that having sold us, he hath then gone on devouring, our silver?
rotherham@Genesis:31:16 @ Surely all the riches which God hath stripped off from our father, unto us, it belongeth, and unto our sons, Now, therefore, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
rotherham@Genesis:31:17 @ So Jacob arose, and mounted his sons and his wives on the camels;
rotherham@Genesis:31:18 @ and drave away all his herds and all his goods which he had gathered, the gains he had gained, which he had gathered in Padan-aram; that he might go in unto Isaac his father unto the land of Canaan.
rotherham@Genesis:31:19 @ Now, Laban, had gone, to shear his sheep, so Rachel stole the household gods that belonged to her father,
rotherham@Genesis:31:20 @ Thus Jacob stole away unawares to Laban, the Syrian, in that he had not told him that he was about to flee.
rotherham@Genesis:31:21 @ So he fled, theand all that he had, and he arose, and passed over the River, and set his face towards the mountain of Gilead.
rotherham@Genesis:31:22 @ And it was told Laban, on the third day, that Jacob had fled.
rotherham@Genesis:31:23 @ So he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him a journey of seven daysand overtook him in the mountain of Gilead.
rotherham@Genesis:31:24 @ And God went in unto Laban the Syrian in a dream of the night, and said to him Take heed to thyself that thou speak not with Jacob either good or bad.
rotherham@Genesis:31:25 @ So then Laban came up with Jacob, Jacob, having pitched his tent in the mountain, Laban, also, with his brethren pitched in the mountain of Gilead.
rotherham@Genesis:31:26 @ Then said Laban to Jacob, What hadst thou done, that thou shouldst steal away unawares to me, and shouldst carry off my daughters, as captives of the sword?
rotherham@Genesis:31:27 @ Wherefore didst thou secretly flee, and rob me, and didst not tell me, that I might send thee away with rejoicing and with songs, with timbrel and with lyre;
rotherham@Genesis:31:28 @ and didst not suffer me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now, hast thou done, foolishly.
rotherham@Genesis:31:29 @ It is in the power of my hand, to deal with thee for harm, but the God of your father, last night, spake unto me, saying, Take heed to thyself that thou speak not with Jacob, either good or bad.
rotherham@Genesis:31:30 @ But, now, though thou, didst even take thy journey, because thou, didst sorely long, for the house of thy father,, wherefore didst thou steal away my gods?
rotherham@Genesis:31:31 @ And Jacob answered and said unto Laban, Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest thou take by force thy daughters from me!
rotherham@Genesis:31:32 @ He with whom thou find thy gods, shall not live! Before our brethren, note thou for thyself what is with me and take what is thine. Neither did Jacob know that, Rachel, had stolen them.
rotherham@Genesis:31:33 @ Then entered Laban into the tent of Jacob and into the tent of Leah and into the tent of the two handmaids, and found nothing, then went he forth out of the tent of Leah, and entered into the tent of Rachel.
rotherham@Genesis:31:34 @ Now Rachel, had taken the household gods and put them in the basket-saddle of the camel, and taken her seat upon them. And Laban felt about throughout all the tent, and found them not.
rotherham@Genesis:31:35 @ And she said unto her father, Let it not be vexing in the eyes of my lord that I cannot rise up at thy presence, for, the way of women, is upon me. So he made search, but found not the household gods,
rotherham@Genesis:31:36 @ And it was vexing to Jacob and he contended with Laban, and Jacob responded and said to Laban, What was my trespass, what my sin, that thou shouldst have come burning after me?
rotherham@Genesis:31:37 @ Now that thou hast felt about among all my goods, what hast thou found of the goods of thine own house? Set it out here, right before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may give sentence betwixt us two.
rotherham@Genesis:31:38 @ This twenty years time, have, I, been with thee Thy ewes and thy she-goats, have not cast their young, And the rams of thy flock, have I not eaten,
rotherham@Genesis:31:39 @ The torn, have I not brought in unto thee I bare the loss, At my hand, didst thou require it, Stolen by day, or stolen by night.
rotherham@Genesis:31:40 @ Thus have I been By day, drought hath consumed me, And, frost, by, night, So that my sleep fled away from mine eyes.
rotherham@Genesis:31:41 @ This, hath been my lot twenty years in thy house, I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, And six years for thy sheep And thou didst change my wages ten times:
rotherham@Genesis:31:42 @ But that the God of my father The God of Abraham, and the Dread of Isaac Proved to he mine, Surely even now, empty, hadst thou let me go? My humiliation and the wearying toil of my hands, God had seen, And therefore gave sentence last night!
rotherham@Genesis:31:43 @ Then responded Laban and said unto Jacobthe daughters, are my daughters, And the sons, are my sons, And the sheep are my sheep, And, all that, thou, beholdest, To me doth it belong! But to my daughters, what can I do to these this day, Or to their sons whom they have borne?
rotherham@Genesis:31:44 @ Now, therefore, come on! Let us solemnise a covenant, I and thou, So shall it be a witness betwixt me and thee.
rotherham@Genesis:31:45 @ So Jacob took a stone, and set it up as a pillar.
rotherham@Genesis:31:46 @ Then said Jacob to his brethren Gather stones. And they took stones and made a heap, and they did eat there, by the heap.
rotherham@Genesis:31:47 @ And Laban called it, Jegar-sahadutha, but, Jacob, called it, Galeed.
rotherham@Genesis:31:48 @ Then said Laban: This heap, be witness betwixt me, and thee, to-day. For this cause, is the name thereof called Galeed;
rotherham@Genesis:31:49 @ also, The Watch Tower, as to which it is said, Yahweh watch betwixt me and thee, when we are parted one from another.
rotherham@Genesis:31:50 @ If thou oppress my daughters, or if thou take wives besides my daughters, there may be no man with ussee! God, be witness betwixt me, and thee!
rotherham@Genesis:31:51 @ And Laban said to Jacob Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have set betwixt me, and thee:
rotherham@Genesis:31:52 @ A witness, be this heap, and, a witness, the pillar, That, I, am not to pass, unto thee, over this heap, And, thou, art not to pass, unto me, over this heap and this pillar for harm.
rotherham@Genesis:31:53 @ The Gods of Abraham and the Gods of Nahor judge betwixt usthe Gods of their fathers. And Jacob sware by the Dread of his father Isaac:
rotherham@Genesis:31:54 @ and Jacob offered sacrifice in the mountain, and called on his brethren to eat bread. So they did eat bread, and tarried the night in the mountain.
rotherham@Genesis:31:55 @ And Laban rose up early in the morning, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban went his way and returned to his place.
rotherham@Genesis:32:1 @ When, Jacob, had gone on his way, there met him, messengers of God.
rotherham@Genesis:32:2 @ And Jacob said, when he saw them, the camp of God, is this! So he called the name of that place, Mahanaim.
rotherham@Genesis:32:3 @ Then did Jacob send messengers before him unto Esau his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.
rotherham@Genesis:32:4 @ And he commanded them, saying, Thus, shall ye say to my lord to Esau, Thus, saith thy servant Jacob, With Laban, have I sojourned, and tarried until now:
rotherham@Genesis:32:5 @ And I have oxen and asses, flocks and men-servants, and maid-servants, So I must needs send to tell my lord, that I might find favour in thine eyes.
rotherham@Genesis:32:6 @ And the messengers returned unto Jacob, saying, We came in unto thy brother unto Esau, moreover also he is on his way to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
rotherham@Genesis:32:7 @ Then was Jacob greatly afraid, and in distress. So he divided the people that were with him and the flocks and the herds and the camels into two camps,
rotherham@Genesis:32:8 @ And he said. Should Esau come upon the one camp, and smite it, yet shall the camp that is left escape.
rotherham@Genesis:32:9 @ And Jacob said, God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Yahweh, who wast saying unto me, Return to thy land and to thy kindred that I may deal well with thee:
rotherham@Genesis:32:10 @ I am too small for all the lovingkindnesses and for all the faithfulness, which thou hast done unto thy servant, For with my staff, passed I over this Jordan, But, now, have I become two camps.
rotherham@Genesis:32:11 @ Deliver me I pray thee out of the hand of my brother out of the hand of Esau, for I, am afraid of him, lest he come in and smite mother as well as sons
rotherham@Genesis:32:12 @ But, thou thyself, saidst, I wilt deal well with thee. So will I make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which is not to be counted, for multitude.
rotherham@Genesis:32:13 @ And he tarried there that night, and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother:
rotherham@Genesis:32:14 @ She-goats, two hundred; And he-goats, twenty; Ewes, two hundred; And rams, twenty;
rotherham@Genesis:32:15 @ Milch camels, with their colts, thirty; Cows, forty; And bulls, ten; She-asses, twenty; And
rotherham@Genesis:32:16 @ And he gave them into the hand of his Servants, each drove by itself, and said unto his servants Pass over before me, and, a breathing-space, shall ye put betwixt drove and drove.
rotherham@Genesis:32:17 @ And be commanded the first one saying: When Esau my brother shall fall in with thee, and shall ask thee, saying Whose art thou? and whither wouldst thou go? and to whom belong these before thee?
rotherham@Genesis:32:18 @ then shalt thou say, To thy servant Jacob: It is, a present, sent to my lord, to Esau; And behold he himself also is behind us,
rotherham@Genesis:32:19 @ And he commanded the second also, and the third yea all that were going on behind the droves, saying, According to this word, shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.
rotherham@Genesis:32:20 @ Then shall ye say, Also, lo! thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said: I must pacify him with the present that goeth on before me. And, after that, will I see his face: Peradventure he will accept me.
rotherham@Genesis:32:21 @ So the present passed over before him, whereas he himself tarried that night in the camp.
rotherham@Genesis:32:22 @ And he arose in that night and took his two wives, and his two handmaids, and his eleven sons, and pressed over the ford of Jabbok.
rotherham@Genesis:32:23 @ So he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that which he had.
rotherham@Genesis:32:24 @ And Jacob was left alone, and there wrestled a man with him, until the uprisings of the dawn.
rotherham@Genesis:32:25 @ And when he saw, that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacobs thigh was put out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
rotherham@Genesis:32:26 @ Then said he Let me go, for uprisen hath the dawn. And he said: I will not let thee go, except thou have blessed me
rotherham@Genesis:32:27 @ Then he said unto him What is thy name? And he said Jacob.
rotherham@Genesis:32:28 @ Then he said Not Jacob, shall thy name be called any more, but Israel, For thou hast contended with God and with men and hast prevailed.
rotherham@Genesis:32:29 @ Then asked Jacob and said, Do, I pray thee, tell me thy name! And he said Wherefore now, shouldest thou ask for my name? And he blessed him there,
rotherham@Genesis:32:30 @ So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; For I saw God face to face; and my soul was delivered,
rotherham@Genesis:32:31 @ And the sun rose on him as soon as he had passed over Penuel, he, moreover was halting upon his thigh,
rotherham@Genesis:32:32 @ For this cause, the sons of Israel eat not of the nerve of the large hip-sinew, which is by the hollow of the thigh, until this day, because he touched the hollow of the thigh of Jacob, in the nerve of the hip-sinew.
rotherham@Genesis:33:1 @ Then Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! Esau, coming in, and with him, four hundred men. So he divided the childrenunto Leah and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids;
rotherham@Genesis:33:2 @ and put the handmaids and their children first, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph next;
rotherham@Genesis:33:3 @ but he himself, passed over before them, and bowed himself to the earth seven times, until he had come near unto his brother.
rotherham@Genesis:33:4 @ Then ran Esau to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and they wept.
rotherham@Genesis:33:5 @ Then lifted he up his eyes, and beheld the women and the children, and said What are these to thee? And he said The children wherewith God hath favoured thy servant,
rotherham@Genesis:33:6 @ Then came near the handmaids, theyand their children, and bowed themselves.
rotherham@Genesis:33:7 @ Then came near Leah also with her children, and they bowed themselves. And afterwards, came near Joseph with Rachel, and they bowed themselves,
rotherham@Genesis:33:8 @ Then said he, What to thee is all this camp, which I have fallen in with? And he said, To find favour in the eyes of my lord.
rotherham@Genesis:33:9 @ Then said Esau, I have an abundance, my brother, be thine what thou hast!
rotherham@Genesis:33:10 @ Then said Jacob, Nay, I pray thee, if, I pray thee, have found favour in thine eyes, then thou wilt take my present at my hand, For on this account, hath my seeing thy face been like seeing the face of God in that thou wast well-pleased with me.
rotherham@Genesis:33:11 @ Take, I pray thee my blessing which hath been brought in to thee, because God hath shewed me favour and because I have everything. So he was urgent with him and he took it.
rotherham@Genesis:33:12 @ Then he said, Let us break up and go, and let me go on before thee.
rotherham@Genesis:33:13 @ And he said unto him, My lord, is taking note, that, the children are tender, and the flocks and the herds are giving suck with me, and, should I overdrive them a single day, then would all the flocks die.
rotherham@Genesis:33:14 @ Let my lord, I pray thee pass over before his servant, and let, me, lead on in my own easy way, at the pace of the cattle that are before me, and at the pace of the children, until that I come in unto my lord, towards Seir.
rotherham@Genesis:33:15 @ Then said Esau: Let me leave, I pray thee, along with thee, some of the people who are with me! And he said Why so? let me find favour in the eyes of my lord!
rotherham@Genesis:33:16 @ So Esau returned, that day, to his journey towards Mount Seir.
rotherham@Genesis:33:17 @ But, Jacob, brake up towards Succoth, and built for himself a house, for his cattle, made he places of shelter, for which cause, the name of the place was called, Succoth.
rotherham@Genesis:33:18 @ And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came in from Padan-aram, and he encamped before the city.
rotherham@Genesis:33:19 @ And he bought the portion of the field where he had spread out his tent, at the hand of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem, for a hundred kesitahs.
rotherham@Genesis:33:20 @ And he set up there an altar, and called it, El-elohe-Israel.
rotherham@Genesis:34:1 @ Then went forth Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, to see the daughters of the land.
