Job:26-31

asv@Job:26:1 @Then Job answered and said,

asv@Job:26:2 @How hast thou helped him that is without power! How hast thou saved the arm that hath no strength!

asv@Job:26:3 @How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom, And plentifully declared sound knowledge!

asv@Job:26:4 @To whom hast thou uttered words? And whose spirit came forth from thee?

asv@Job:26:5 @They that are deceased tremble Beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof.

asv@Job:26:6 @Sheol is naked before God, And Abaddon hath no covering.

asv@Job:26:7 @He stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing.

asv@Job:26:8 @He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; And the cloud is not rent under them.

asv@Job:26:9 @He incloseth the face of his throne, And spreadeth his cloud upon it.

asv@Job:26:10 @He hath described a boundary upon the face of the waters, Unto the confines of light and darkness.

asv@Job:26:11 @The pillars of heaven tremble And are astonished at his rebuke.

asv@Job:26:12 @He stirreth up the sea with his power, And by his understanding he smiteth through Rahab.

asv@Job:26:13 @By his Spirit the heavens are garnished; His hand hath pierced the swift serpent.

asv@Job:26:14 @Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways: And how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

asv@Job:27:1 @And Job again took up his parable, and said,

asv@Job:27:2 @As God liveth, who hath taken away my right, And the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul:

asv@Job:27:3 @(For my life is yet whole in me, And the spirit of God is in my nostrils);

asv@Job:27:4 @Surely my lips shall not speak unrighteousness, Neither shall my tongue utter deceit.

asv@Job:27:5 @Far be it from me that I should justify you: Till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me.

asv@Job:27:6 @My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: My heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

asv@Job:27:7 @Let mine enemy be as the wicked, And let him that riseth up against me be as the unrighteous.

asv@Job:27:8 @For what is the hope of the godless, though he get him gain, When God taketh away his soul?

asv@Job:27:9 @Will God hear his cry, When trouble cometh upon him?

asv@Job:27:10 @Will he delight himself in the Almighty, And call upon God at all times?

asv@Job:27:11 @I will teach you concerning the hand of God; That which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

asv@Job:27:12 @Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; Why then are ye become altogether vain?

asv@Job:27:13 @This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from the Almighty:

asv@Job:27:14 @If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

asv@Job:27:15 @Those that remain of him shall be buried in death, And his widows shall make no lamentation.

asv@Job:27:16 @Though he heap up silver as the dust, And prepare raiment as the clay;

asv@Job:27:17 @He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, And the innocent shall divide the silver.

asv@Job:27:18 @He buildeth his house as the moth, And as a booth which the keeper maketh.

asv@Job:27:19 @He lieth down rich, but he shall not be gathered to his fathers; He openeth his eyes, and he is not.

asv@Job:27:20 @Terrors overtake him like waters; A tempest stealeth him away in the night.

asv@Job:27:21 @The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth; And it sweepeth him out of his place.

asv@Job:27:22 @For God shall hurl at him, and not spare: He would fain flee out of his hand.

asv@Job:27:23 @Men shall clap their hands at him, And shall hiss him out of his place.

asv@Job:28:1 @Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place for gold which they refine.

asv@Job:28:2 @Iron is taken out of the earth, And copper is molten out of the stone.

asv@Job:28:3 @Man setteth an end to darkness, And searcheth out, to the furthest bound, The stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

asv@Job:28:4 @He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; They are forgotten of the foot; They hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.

asv@Job:28:5 @As for the earth, out of it cometh bread; And underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

asv@Job:28:6 @The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, And it hath dust of gold.

asv@Job:28:7 @That path no bird of prey knoweth, Neither hath the falcon's eye seen it:

asv@Job:28:8 @The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor hath the fierce lion passed thereby.

asv@Job:28:9 @He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.

asv@Job:28:10 @He cutteth out channels among the rocks; And his eye seeth every precious thing.

asv@Job:28:11 @He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; And the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

asv@Job:28:12 @But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

asv@Job:28:13 @Man knoweth not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

asv@Job:28:14 @The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me.

asv@Job:28:15 @It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

asv@Job:28:16 @It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

asv@Job:28:17 @Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

asv@Job:28:18 @No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

asv@Job:28:19 @The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

asv@Job:28:20 @Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?

asv@Job:28:21 @Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens.

asv@Job:28:22 @Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.

asv@Job:28:23 @God understandeth the way thereof, And he knoweth the place thereof.

asv@Job:28:24 @For he looketh to the ends of the earth, And seeth under the whole heaven;

asv@Job:28:25 @To make a weight for the wind: Yea, he meteth out the waters by measure.

asv@Job:28:26 @When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder;

asv@Job:28:27 @Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.

asv@Job:28:28 @And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.

asv@Job:29:1 @And Job again took up his parable, and said,

asv@Job:29:2 @Oh that I were as in the months of old, As in the days when God watched over me;

asv@Job:29:3 @When his lamp shined upon my head, And by his light I walked through darkness;

asv@Job:29:4 @As I was in the ripeness of my days, When the friendship of God was upon my tent;

asv@Job:29:5 @When the Almighty was yet with me, And my children were about me;

asv@Job:29:6 @When my steps were washed with butter, And the rock poured me out streams of oil!

asv@Job:29:7 @When I went forth to the gate unto the city, When I prepared my seat in the street,

asv@Job:29:8 @The young men saw me and hid themselves, And the aged rose up and stood;

asv@Job:29:9 @The princes refrained from talking, And laid their hand on their mouth;

asv@Job:29:10 @The voice of the nobles was hushed, And their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

asv@Job:29:11 @For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; And when the eye saw me, it gave witness unto me:

asv@Job:29:12 @Because I delivered the poor that cried, The fatherless also, that had none to help him.

asv@Job:29:13 @The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me; And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

asv@Job:29:14 @I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: My justice was as a robe and a diadem.

asv@Job:29:15 @I was eyes to the blind, And feet was I to the lame.

asv@Job:29:16 @I was a father to the needy: And the cause of him that I knew not I searched out.

asv@Job:29:17 @And I brake the jaws of the unrighteous, And plucked the prey out of his teeth.

asv@Job:29:18 @Then I said, I shall die in my nest, And I shall multiply my days as the sand:

asv@Job:29:19 @My root is spread out to the waters, And the dew lieth all night upon my branch;

asv@Job:29:20 @My glory is fresh in me, And my bow is renewed in my hand.

asv@Job:29:21 @Unto me men gave ear, and waited, And kept silence for my counsel.

asv@Job:29:22 @After my words they spake not again; And my speech distilled upon them.

asv@Job:29:23 @And they waited for me as for the rain; And they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

asv@Job:29:24 @I smiled on them, when they had no confidence; And the light of my countenance they cast not down.

asv@Job:29:25 @I chose out their way, and sat as chief, And dwelt as a king in the army, As one that comforteth the mourners.

asv@Job:30:1 @But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, Whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.

asv@Job:30:2 @Yea, the strength of their hands, whereto should it profit me? Men in whom ripe age is perished.

asv@Job:30:3 @They are gaunt with want and famine; They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation.

asv@Job:30:4 @They pluck salt-wort by the bushes; And the roots of the broom are their food.

asv@Job:30:5 @They are driven forth from the midst of men; They cry after them as after a thief;

asv@Job:30:6 @So that they dwell in frightful valleys, In holes of the earth and of the rocks.

asv@Job:30:7 @Among the bushes they bray; Under the nettles they are gathered together.

asv@Job:30:8 @They are children of fools, yea, children of base men; They were scourged out of the land.

asv@Job:30:9 @And now I am become their song, Yea, I am a byword unto them.

asv@Job:30:10 @They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face.

asv@Job:30:11 @For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me; And they have cast off the bridle before me.

asv@Job:30:12 @Upon my right hand rise the rabble; They thrust aside my feet, And they cast up against me their ways of destruction.

asv@Job:30:13 @They mar my path, They set forward my calamity, Even men that have no helper.

asv@Job:30:14 @As through a wide breach they come: In the midst of the ruin they roll themselves upon me.

asv@Job:30:15 @Terrors are turned upon me; They chase mine honor as the wind; And my welfare is passed away as a cloud.

asv@Job:30:16 @And now my soul is poured out within me; Days of affliction have taken hold upon me.

asv@Job:30:17 @In the night season my bones are pierced in me, And the pains that gnaw me take no rest.

asv@Job:30:18 @By God's great force is my garment disfigured; It bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.

asv@Job:30:19 @He hath cast me into the mire, And I am become like dust and ashes.

asv@Job:30:20 @I cry unto thee, and thou dost not answer me: I stand up, and thou gazest at me.

asv@Job:30:21 @Thou art turned to be cruel to me; With the might of thy hand thou persecutest me.

asv@Job:30:22 @Thou liftest me up to the wind, thou causest me to ride upon it; And thou dissolvest me in the storm.

asv@Job:30:23 @For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, And to the house appointed for all living.

asv@Job:30:24 @Howbeit doth not one stretch out the hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help?

asv@Job:30:25 @Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?

asv@Job:30:26 @When I looked for good, then evil came; And when I waited for light, there came darkness.

asv@Job:30:27 @My heart is troubled, and resteth not; Days of affliction are come upon me.

asv@Job:30:28 @I go mourning without the sun: I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.

asv@Job:30:29 @I am a brother to jackals, And a companion to ostriches.

asv@Job:30:30 @My skin is black, and falleth from me, And my bones are burned with heat.

asv@Job:30:31 @Therefore is my harp turned to mourning, And my pipe into the voice of them that weep.

asv@Job:31:1 @I made a covenant with mine eyes; How then should I look upon a virgin?

asv@Job:31:2 @For what is the portion from God above, And the heritage from the Almighty on high?

asv@Job:31:3 @Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, And disaster to the workers of iniquity?

asv@Job:31:4 @Doth not he see my ways, And number all my steps?

asv@Job:31:5 @If I have walked with falsehood, And my foot hath hasted to deceit;

asv@Job:31:6 @(Let me be weighed in an even balance, That God may know mine integrity);

asv@Job:31:7 @If my step hath turned out of the way, And my heart walked after mine eyes, And if any spot hath cleaved to my hands:

asv@Job:31:8 @Then let me sow, and let another eat; Yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out.

asv@Job:31:9 @If my heart hath been enticed unto a woman, And I have laid wait at my neighbor's door;

asv@Job:31:10 @Then let my wife grind unto another, And let others bow down upon her.

asv@Job:31:11 @For that were a heinous crime; Yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

asv@Job:31:12 @For it is a fire that consumeth unto Destruction, And would root out all mine increase.

asv@Job:31:13 @If I have despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, When they contended with me;

asv@Job:31:14 @What then shall I do when God riseth up? And when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

asv@Job:31:15 @Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

asv@Job:31:16 @If I have withheld the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

asv@Job:31:17 @Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

asv@Job:31:18 @(Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And her have I guided from my mother's womb);

asv@Job:31:19 @If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering;

asv@Job:31:20 @If his loins have not blessed me, And if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

asv@Job:31:21 @If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, Because I saw my help in the gate:

asv@Job:31:22 @Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, And mine arm be broken from the bone.

asv@Job:31:23 @For calamity from God is a terror to me, And by reason of his majesty I can do nothing.

asv@Job:31:24 @If I have made gold my hope, And have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

asv@Job:31:25 @If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gotten much;

asv@Job:31:26 @If I have beheld the sun when it shined, Or the moon walking in brightness,

asv@Job:31:27 @And my heart hath been secretly enticed, And my mouth hath kissed my hand:

asv@Job:31:28 @This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges; For I should have denied the God that is above.

asv@Job:31:29 @If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, Or lifted up myself when evil found him;

asv@Job:31:30 @(Yea, I have not suffered by mouth to sin By asking his life with a curse);

asv@Job:31:31 @If the men of my tent have not said, Who can find one that hath not been filled with his meat?

asv@Job:31:32 @(The sojourner hath not lodged in the street; But I have opened my doors to the traveller);

asv@Job:31:33 @If like Adam I have covered my transgressions, By hiding mine iniquity in my bosom,

asv@Job:31:34 @Because I feared the great multitude, And the contempt of families terrified me, So that I kept silence, and went not out of the door-

asv@Job:31:35 @Oh that I had one to hear me! (Lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me); And that I had the indictment which mine adversary hath written!

asv@Job:31:36 @Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown:

asv@Job:31:37 @I would declare unto him the number of my steps; As a prince would I go near unto him.

asv@Job:31:38 @If my land crieth out against me, And the furrows thereof weep together;

asv@Job:31:39 @If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, Or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

asv@Job:31:40 @Let thistles grow instead of wheat, And cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

asv@Job:32:1 @So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
