Luke:2:21-40




noyes@Luke:2:21 @ And when eight days were completed for him to be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

noyes@Luke:2:22 @ And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,

noyes@Luke:2:24 @ and to offer a sacrifice, according to what is directed in the law of the Lord: "A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons."

noyes@Luke:2:25 @ And lo! there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and he was a righteous and devout man, waiting for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was upon him;

noyes@Luke:2:26 @ and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.

noyes@Luke:2:32 @ a light to enlighten the gentiles, and to be the glory of thy people Israel.

noyes@Luke:2:34 @ And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be spoken against; ––

noyes@Luke:2:35 @ yea, a sword will pierce through thine own soul,––that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

noyes@Luke:2:36 @ And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel: of the tribe of Asher; she was of great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;

noyes@Luke:2:37 @ and she was a widow eighty–four years old, who never left the temple, worshipping with fastings and prayers night and day.

noyes@Luke:2:38 @ And she came up at this very time, and gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all that were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

noyes@Luke:2:39 @ And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

noyes@Luke:2:40 @ And the child grew, and waxed strong, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him.
