tcent Luke:22:66-23:25

tcent@Luke:22:66 @ As soon as it was day, the council of the elders of the people came together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council chamber, saying,

tcent@Luke:22:67 @ »If you are the Christ, tell us.« But he said to them, »If I tell you, you will not believe.

tcent@Luke:22:68 @ And if I ask you, you will not answer.

tcent@Luke:22:69 @ But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.«

tcent@Luke:22:70 @ They all said, »Are you the Son of God, then?« He said to them, »You said what I am.«

tcent@Luke:22:71 @ And they said, »What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.«

tcent@Luke:23:1 @ Then the whole body of them arose and led him to Pilate.

tcent@Luke:23:2 @ And they began to accuse him, saying, »We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king.«

tcent@Luke:23:3 @ So Pilate asked him, »Are you the King of the Jews?« He answered him, »It is as you say.«

tcent@Luke:23:4 @ Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, »I find no crime in this man.«

tcent@Luke:23:5 @ But they were urgent, saying, »He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place.«

tcent@Luke:23:6 @ When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean.

tcent@Luke:23:7 @ And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem at that time.

tcent@Luke:23:8 @ Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had desired to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by him.

tcent@Luke:23:9 @ Then he questioned him with many words, but he gave him no answer.

tcent@Luke:23:10 @ The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.

tcent@Luke:23:11 @ And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, dressing him in a gorgeous robe, he sent him back to Pilate.

tcent@Luke:23:12 @ That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.

tcent@Luke:23:13 @ Pilate then called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,

tcent@Luke:23:14 @ and said to them, »You have brought this man to me as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. And behold, having examined him in your presence, I have found no guilt in this man concerning those charges which you make against him;

tcent@Luke:23:15 @ neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Behold, nothing deserving death has been done by him;

tcent@Luke:23:16 @ I will therefore chastise him and release him.«

tcent@Luke:23:17" />

tcent@Luke:23:18 @ But they all cried out together, »Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas«—

tcent@Luke:23:19 @ a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.

tcent@Luke:23:20 @ Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed to them again.

tcent@Luke:23:21 @ But they shouted, »Crucify him, crucify him!«

tcent@Luke:23:22 @ Then he said to them the third time, »Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no crime deserving death. I will therefore chastise him and release him.«

tcent@Luke:23:23 @ But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified. And their voices prevailed.

tcent@Luke:23:24 @ So Pilate gave sentence that their demand should be granted.

tcent@Luke:23:25 @ And he released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.
