Luke:8:4-21

And when many people were gathered together ,
and came to him from town after town ,
he spoke in a parable :
*
A sower went out to sow his seed :
and as he sowed ,
some fell by the wayside ;
and it was trodden down ,
and the birds of the air devoured it .
*
And some fell upon the rock ;
and as soon as it had sprung up ,
it withered away ,
because it lacked moisture .
*
And some fell among thorns ;
and the thorns sprang up with it ,
and choked it .
*
And other fell on good ground ,
and sprang up ,
and bore a crop a hundred times as great .
And when he said these things ,
he called out ,
He who has ears to hear ,
let him hear .
*
And his disciples asked him ,
What does this parable mean ?
*
And he said ,
To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God :
but to others it is in parables ;
that seeing they might not see ,
and hearing they might not understand .
*
Now the meaning of the parable is this :
The seed is the word of God .
*
Those by the wayside are the ones who hear ;
then the devil comes ,
and takes the word from their hearts ,
lest they should believe and be saved .
*
Those on the rock are the ones ,
who ,
when they hear ,
receive the word with joy ;
but they have no root ;
they believe for a while ,
but in time of temptation fall away .
*
And the seed which fell among thorns are those ,
who ,
when they have heard ,
go forth ,
and are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life ,
and bring no fruit to maturity .
*
But the seed on the good ground are those ,
who in an honest and good heart ,
having heard the word ,
keep it ,
and bring forth fruit with patience .
*
No man ,
when he has lighted a lamp ,
covers it with a container ,
or puts it under a bed ;
but sets it on a stand ,
that those who enter may see the light .
*
For nothing is hidden ,
that shall not be disclosed ;
nor anything secret ,
that shall not be made known and come into the open .
*
Therefore ,
take heed how you listen :
for whoever has ,
to him shall be given ;
and whoever has not ,
from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have .
*
Then his mother and brothers came to him ,
and could not reach him because of the crowd .
*
And he was told ,
Your mother and brothers are standing outside ,
wanting to see you .
*
And he answered and said to them ,
My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God ,
and do it .
