* After two days was (5713 ) the feast of the passover , and of unleavened bread : and the chief priests and the scribes sought (5707 ) how they might take (5660 ) him by craft , and put him to death (5725 ). * But they said (5707 ), Not on the feast day , lest there be (5704 ) an uproar of the people . * And being (5752 ) in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper , as he sat at meat (5740 ), there came (5627 ) a woman having (5723 ) an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious ; and she brake (5660 ) the box , and poured (5656 ) it on his head . * And there were (5713 ) some that had indignation (5723 ) within themselves , and said (5723 ), Why was this waste of the ointment made (5754 )? * For it might (5711 ) have been sold (5683 ) for more than three hundred pence , and have been given (5683 ) to the poor . And they murmured against (5711 ) her . * And Jesus said (5627 ), Let her alone (5628 ); why trouble ye (5719 ) her ? she hath wrought (5662 ) a good work on me . * For ye have (5719 ) the poor with you always , and whensoever ye will (5725 ) ye may (5736 ) do (5658 ) them good : but me ye have (5719 ) not always . * She hath done (5656 ) what she (5625 ) could (5707 ): she is come aforehand (5627 ) to anoint (5658 ) my body to the burying . * Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached (5686 ) throughout the whole world , this also that she (5625 ) hath done (5656 ) shall be spoken (5701 ) of for a memorial of her . * And Judas Iscariot , one of the twelve , went (5627 ) unto the chief priests , to betray (5632 ) him unto them . * And when they heard (5660 ) it , they were glad (5644 ), and promised (5673 ) to give (5629 ) him money . And he sought (5707 ) how he might conveniently betray (5632 ) him .
