* AGAIN Jesus began to teach beside the lake , and a very great crowd gathered around him , so that he got into a boat on the lake and sat down , and all the crowd was on the shore near the lake . * He taught them many things by figures of speech . He said to them in his teaching , riversident @Mark:4:3 " /> riversident @Mark:4:4 " /> riversident @Mark:4:5 " /> riversident @Mark:4:6 " /> riversident @Mark:4:7 " /> riversident @Mark:4:8 " /> * He said to them , * When he was alone , his close friends and the twelve asked him about the illustrations . * He replied , riversident @Mark:4:12 " /> * He said to them , riversident @Mark:4:14 " /> riversident @Mark:4:15 " /> riversident @Mark:4:16 " /> riversident @Mark:4:17 " /> riversident @Mark:4:18 " /> riversident @Mark:4:19 " /> riversident @Mark:4:20 " /> * He said to them , riversident @Mark:4:22 " /> riversident @Mark:4:23 " /> * He said again to them , riversident @Mark:4:25 " /> * He said again , riversident @Mark:4:27 " /> riversident @Mark:4:28 " /> riversident @Mark:4:29 " /> * Again he said , riversident @Mark:4:31 " /> riversident @Mark:4:32 " /> * With many such illustrations he went on talking to them as they were able to listen ; * but except in figures of speech he did not talk to them . Privately to his own disciples he explained all things . * On that day when evening came he said to them , * So they left the crowd and took him along just as he was , in the boat . There were also other boats with them . * Then a heavy squall of wind came up and the waves beat into the boat so that it was filling . * But he was in the stern asleep on the cushion . They aroused him and said to him , "Teacher , do you not care that we are sinking ?" * When he awoke , he rebuked the wind and said to the sea , The wind ceased and there was a great calm . * Then he asked them , * But they were intensely awestruck and said to one another , "Who , then , is this , that even the wind and the lake obey him ?"
