* Jesus immediately had his disciples get into the boat and cross before him to Bethsaida while he was dismissing the crowd . * After taking leave of them , he went away up the mountain to pray . * When evening had fallen , the boat was half across the lake and he was alone on the land . * He saw them distressed in rowing , for the wind was against them . About the fourth watch of the night , he came to them walking on the lake and he seemed to be going past them . * But when they saw him walking on the lake , they thought that it was a ghost and cried out . * For they all saw him and were frightened . But he immediately spoke to them and said , * Then he got into the boat with them and the wind dropped . They were in boundless amazement ; * for they had not grasped the miracle of the loaves because their minds were dull .
