Nehemiah:8-10

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:1 @ And all the people gathered themselves as one man into the street before the water gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:2 @ And Ezra the priest brought the Law before the congregation, both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:3 @ And he read in it before the street in front of the Water Gate from the morning until noon, in front of the men and the women, and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people [listened] to the Book of the Law.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:4 @ And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood which they had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:5 @ And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people. And when he opened it, all the people stood up.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:6 @ And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, amen, amen, lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with [their] faces to the ground.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:7 @ And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law. And the people [were] in their place.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:8 @ And they read in the Book of the Law of God, clearly. And they gave the sense, and caused [them] to understand the reading.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:9 @ And Nehemiah, the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, This day [is] holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:10 @ Then he said to them, Go eat the fat and drink the sweet, and send portions to him for [whom] nothing is prepared. For [this] day [is] holy to our LORD. And do not be sorry, for the joy of the LORD [is] your strength.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:11 @ And the Levites quieted all the people, saying, Be quiet, for the day [is] holy. And do not be grieved.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:12 @ And all the people went to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words which were declared to them.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:13 @ And on the second day the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:14 @ And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the sons of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month,

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:15 @ and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth to the mountain and bring olive branches and pine branches and myrtle branches and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as [it is] written.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:16 @ And the people went out and brought in, and made themselves booths, each one upon his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the Water Gate, and in the street of the Gate of Ephraim.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:17 @ And all the congregation of those who had come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths. For since the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day, the sons of Israel had not done so. And there was very great gladness.

mkjv@Nehemiah:8:18 @ Also day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read in the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast seven days, and on the eighth [was] an assembly, according to the law.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:1 @ And in the twenty-fourth day of this month, the sons of Israel were gathered with fasting and with sackcloth, and with earth upon them.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:2 @ And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins and the sins of their fathers.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:3 @ And they stood up in their place, and read in the Book of the Law of the LORD their God a fourth part of the day. And [another] fourth part they confessed and worshiped the LORD their God.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:4 @ And stood upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani [and] Chenani, and cried with a loud voice to the LORD their God.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:5 @ And the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, [and] Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God forever and ever. And blessed be Your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:6 @ You, even You, [are] LORD alone. You have made the heavens, heaven of the heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things on it, the seas, and all in them, and You preserve them all. And the host of the heavens worships You.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:7 @ You [are] the LORD, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name of Abraham,

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:8 @ and found his heart faithful before You, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give [ it] to his seed. And You have performed Your words, for You are righteous.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:9 @ And You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their cry by the Red Sea,

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:10 @ and gave out signs and wonders upon Pharaoh and upon all his servants and upon all the people of his land. For You knew that they were acting proudly against them. So You got Yourself a name, as today.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:11 @ And You divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land. And their pursuers You threw into the deep, like a stone into the mighty waters.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:12 @ And You led them in the day by a cloudy pillar, and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way in which they should go.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:13 @ And You came down on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from Heaven, and gave them right judgments and true laws, good statutes and commandments.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:14 @ And You made known to them Your holy sabbath, and commanded them commandments, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses Your servant.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:15 @ And You gave them bread from the heavens for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst. And You promised them that they should go in to possess the land which You had sworn to give them.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:16 @ But they and our fathers acted proudly and hardened their necks, and did not listen to Your commandments.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:17 @ And they refused to obey, neither were they mindful of Your wonders which You did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But You [are] a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and did not forsake them.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:18 @ Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This [is] your God who brought you up out of Egypt, and had worked great blasphemies,

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:19 @ yet You in Your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day to lead them in the way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to show them light and the way in which they should go.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:20 @ You also gave Your good Spirit to teach them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:21 @ And forty years You sustained them in the wilderness. They lacked nothing; their clothes did not become old, and their feet did not swell.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:22 @ And You gave them kingdoms and nations, and divided them into corners. And they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:23 @ And You multiplied their sons like the stars of the heavens, and brought them into the land concerning which You had promised to their fathers that they should go in to possess [it].

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:24 @ And the sons went in and possessed the land, and You humbled the people of the land before them, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hands, with their kings and the people of the land, so that they might do with them as they would.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:25 @ And they took strong cities and a rich land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells already dug, vineyards and olive-yards, and fruit trees in abundance. And they ate and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in Your great goodness.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:26 @ But they were disobedient and rebelled against You, and cast Your law behind their backs. And they killed Your prophets who testified against them to turn them to You, and they worked great blasphemies.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:27 @ And You delivered them into the hand of their enemies, who troubled them. And in the time of their trouble, they cried to You, and You heard from Heaven. And according to Your manifold mercies, You gave them deliverers, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:28 @ But after they had rest, they did evil again before You, and You left them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the rule over them. But they returned and cried to You, and You heard from Heaven. And many times You delivered them according to Your mercies,

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:29 @ and testified against them that You might bring them again to Your law. But they acted proudly and did not listen to Your commandments, but sinned against Your judgments (which if a man do, he shall live in them), and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:30 @ And many years You had patience with them, and testified against them by Your Spirit, by Your prophets, but they would not give ear. And You gave them into the hand of the people of the lands.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:31 @ But for Your great mercies, You did not completely destroy them nor forsake them. For You [are] a gracious and merciful God.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:32 @ And now, our God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful God, who keeps covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble that has come upon us, on our kings, on our rulers, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all Your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day, seem little before You.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:33 @ But You [are] just in all that is brought upon us, for You have done right, but we have done wickedly.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:34 @ And our kings, our rulers, our priests, and our fathers, have not kept Your law, nor listened to Your commandments and Your words with which You testified against them.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:35 @ For they have not served You in their kingdom, and in Your great goodness which You gave them, and in the large and rich land which You gave before them, and they did not turn from their wicked works.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:36 @ Behold, we [are] servants today. And the land that You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit, and its good, behold, we are servants in it.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:37 @ And it yields much increase to the kings whom You have set over us because of our sins. And they rule over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we [are] in great distress.

mkjv@Nehemiah:9:38 @ And because of all this we [are] cutting a sure [covenant], and write [it], and our princes, Levites, [and] priests are sealing it.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:1 @ And those who sealed [were], Nehemiah, the governor, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:2 @ Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:3 @ Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:4 @ Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:5 @ Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:6 @ Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:7 @ Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:8 @ Maaziah, Bilgai, Shemaiah. These [were] the priests.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:9 @ And the Levites [were] both Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:10 @ and their brothers, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:11 @ Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:12 @ Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:13 @ Hodijah, Bani, Beninu.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:14 @ The chief of the people [were] Parosh, Pahath-moab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:15 @ Bunni, Azgad, Bebai,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:16 @ Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:17 @ Ater, Hizkijah, Azzur,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:18 @ Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:19 @ Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:20 @ Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:21 @ Meshezabeel, Zadok, Jaddua,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:22 @ Pelatiah, Hanan, Anaiah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:23 @ Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashub,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:24 @ Hallohesh, Pileha, Shobek,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:25 @ Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:26 @ and Ahijah, Hanan, Anan,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:27 @ Malluch, Harim, Baanah.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:28 @ And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple-slaves, and all those who had separated from the people of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters (everyone who had knowledge, and who had understanding),

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:29 @ [were] holding fast to their brothers, their honored ones. And they entered into a curse and into an oath, to walk in God's law which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to be careful to do all the commandments of Jehovah our Lord, and His judgments and His statutes.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:30 @ And we swore that we would not give our daughters to the people of the land nor take their daughters for our sons.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:31 @ And [if] the people of the land should bring goods or any food on the Sabbath day to sell it, that we would not buy it from them on the Sabbath or on the holy day, and that we would leave the seventh year, and the interest of every debt.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:32 @ Also we put commands upon ourselves, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God,

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:33 @ for the showbread, and for the continual meal offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy [things], and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:34 @ And we cast the lots among the priests, and the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring into the house of our God, according to the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as [it is] written in the Law

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:35 @ and to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, to the house of the LORD;

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:36 @ and to bring the first-born of our sons, and of our cattle, as [it is] written in the Law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God;

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:37 @ and that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all kinds of trees, of wine and of oil, to the priests, to the rooms of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground to the Levites, and they, the Levites, might have the tithes in all the cities we farmed.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:38 @ And the priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes, and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the rooms, into the treasure house.

mkjv@Nehemiah:10:39 @ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the offering of the grain, of the new wine, and the oil, to the rooms where the vessels of the sanctuary [are], and the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. And we will not forsake the house of our God.

mkjv@Nehemiah:11:1 @ And the rulers of the people lived at Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of every ten to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts in [other] cities.
