Notes:

The widely known prophecy of kjv@Daniel:9:24-26 hangs over the nation's head. If the days are calculated as years (which they likely were by those of that day), the days would be in line with this being the time dict:easton Seventy weeks of Messiah the Prince coming and then also Messiah being cut off. The prophecy also hangs over our head today if we are not to see it as having been fulfilled at the time of Jesus. How else could the prophecy be dated to fit any other time past or future?

Along with the prophecy, there is to be the observations of time. Every indication of that day said that Israel had been in a long incomparable spiritual and national drought and that a massive storm was building on the foreseeable horizon. There was nothing hidden, only that which the people of that day chose to hide from themselves; there is little way of explaining it any other way. Then when the storm did finally crossover and destroy the landscape dispersing the tribes to the four corners and vanquishing the long fading scepter from Judah, well there is very little way for us not to say that both Daniel and Jesus were absolutely right.

This only accounts however for the first climax of the seventy weeks, there is His return still to come. For the remainder, our late presence itself is proof of an apparent gap where the prophetic clock has been paused (seehttp://www.lamblion.com/articles/articles_tribulation6.php or similar for a discussion of dating and gaping Daniel's 70 weeks). Given the precision of what has already been fulfilled, it must be considered that the remainder will be executed with just as much precision when the clock is un-paused. While we do not have the precise date of that we do still have the observations of the times surrounding it.

All of this prophetic discernment of course would be of little consequence if it did not have the tangible effect Jesus continues with, that of delivering one's self from the adversary before hand. Remember that Jesus has turned now from the disciples and begun addressing the larger crowd. The discernment given then had little effect on the people of that day; most were oblivious to it even as it happened. The certainty then is self denial or better put mass denial. Had it never happened at all each still would have been better off having delivered themselves, but they were in denial of even that. That it did happen and that there was every evidence that it was about to happen is no less disturbing as to what we ourselves are likely to continue. His advice is simple, to test the time at hand, to distinguish the proper character and action required given that time.
