Today's Verse:
kjv@Matthew:6:19-24
kjv@Matthew:6:19 @ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where mothand rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal;
kjv@Matthew:6:20 @ But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
kjv@Matthew:6:21 @ For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
kjv@Matthew:6:22 @ The light of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
kjv@Matthew:6:23 @ But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
kjv@Matthew:6:24 @ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Today's notes: If Thine Eye Be
Context:
- Before - When ye fast
- After - Thought for the morrow
What is man believing/doing?:
- laying treasures up for themselves here on earth
- attempting to serve both God and mammon
What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:
- sense of permanence/protection? here and now?
- having a duplicitous eye, the sense that more than one master can be equally served, an arrogance or ignorance towards something other having mastery over one's self
- the sense that prosperity and wealth are a sign of God's approval and blessing or else the sense that God is there to serve their personal interests, a sign of self worth or reward for toil, deserved or worked for
- a love/hate relationship/tension between separate controlling entities
Notes:
How does one store up treasure in heaven?
Key Messages:
What does this say about our present condition?
- Despite our perceived image to be independent and free from control, we are precisely the opposite. Much of the proof of that is that we despise and hate the counter demands God places upon us. One would think that they have no controls placed upon them until there comes God, but God is showing them that they have been under another's control all along
- It may be supposed that the mere belief in Jesus or God or religion alleviates the controlling factors, but actually the tension only increases as now the eye is on two masters. The body can be filled with this type duplicitous believer and is, effecting it's every movement until the Lord performs His work on them. The tension doesn't end their either as faith is now called into obedience and action
- The eye or focus of the body here in the States has become a clash between several masters while it rather should solely be on the person and work of Jesus Christ upon His body and our obedience within that.
