James:1:24 @{He beholdeth himself} (\katenosen heauton\). Usually explained as gnomic aorist like those in strkjv@1:11|, but the ordinary force of the tenses is best here. "He glanced at himself (\katenosen\ aorist) and off he has gone (\apelluthen\ perfect active) and straightway forgot (\epelatheto\, second aorist middle indicative of \epilanthanomai\) what sort of a man he was" (\hopoios n\, back in the picture, imperfect tense). The tenses thus present a vivid and lifelike picture of the careless listener to preaching (Christ's wayside hearer).
rwp@John:6:40 @{Should have eternal life} (\echi zn ainion\). Present active subjunctive with \hina\, "that he may keep on having eternal life" as in strkjv@3:15,36|. {Beholdeth} (\thern\). With the eye of faith as in strkjv@12:45|. {And I will raise him up} (\kai anasts\). Future active indicative (volitive future, promise) as in 54|.
