Watch and be amazed. One far greater than Jonah was sent with numerous signs and wonders to the captive and broken Jewish nation, broken and captive for a long history of toying with their LORD and inability to keep HIS word. One wiser than Solomon, richer in all spiritual wisdom, possessing all heaven and earth is sent to a people that have none of Solomon's (for which they are still so proud) remaining of their own. The wonder is that they cannot see all of this for what it is; a judgment against them. How can one not see every evidence against them? The people of Nineveh repented at the mere threat of their judgment from a foreign Hebrew prophet. The people of Sheba long paid great treasures of tribute to be in union and peace with such a mighty and discerning king. The wonder is why not this Israel in the midst of it's shadow of it's former self before it's Anointed Deliverer? Is there a king that remains in Israel that the Queen of the South would respectfully come inquiring to? Is there a prophet remaining that could turn even a wicked gentile nation? Is there anything left of the former glory of Israel to pin it's otherwise un-repented heart so uncompromisingly to? It is for us to know that indeed that this generation spoken of did not run out before it was most severally judged, not into non-remembrance like old Nineveh but into and sorrowful perpetual remembrance by the scattered/dispersed remnant. Here then is the sign: Every ounce of their will and determination is against it, every pound of their effort is clinched to stop it, they gather and counsel to destroy it, it is utterly despised and rejected, and it is given into their hands to do what they would rather with it. What becomes of it? It becomes everything that is prophesied by their own prophets. It becomes the gentile hope that 2000 years later helps bring the place of their nation back to them against all odds; yet, to this day they are still unrepentant. Why does God even yet continue? Because of His covenant; His word will not return to Him void, He declares what will be before it ever happens. Here then is the present and mounting weight of the sign: It has become so much of our world's tangible/discernible history while there has been every effort made against it for it not to be (for belief requires repentence). Take the number of people that witnessed the wondrous works of Jesus, add to that the number of people that believed because of their testimony, weight that by the factor of the massive human resistance not to believe could not hinder the progress of the belief's initial momentum, multiply that by the number of succeeding generations that continue to believe because of their word. You have a miraculous sign like no other. If the Pharisee only knew the size and scope of confirming miracle this supposed non-sign would quickly and evermore become.
