Today's Verse:
kjv@Mark:12:35-40
kjv@Mark:12:35 @ And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David?
kjv@Mark:12:36 @ For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
kjv@Mark:12:37 @ David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
kjv@Mark:12:38 @ And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
kjv@Mark:12:39 @ And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
kjv@Mark:12:40 @ Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
Today's notes:
Context:
- Before - Which is the first commandment?
- After - The widow of two mites.
Key Concepts:
dict:easton Christ dict:easton Holy Ghost
What is God's righteousness observed doing?:
- Pointing out the contradictions in scribe logic even though they are no longer engaged in the attempt of publicly humiliating Him; finished with anything to do with Him.
- Warning the common listener of the gross transparent actions of the scribes that will bring upon them damnation.
- Pointing to the previous work of the Holy Ghost in preparing for this moment centuries ahead of this.
What does this tell us about God's righteousness?:
- In their effort to destroy Jesus by their barrage of leading questions they failed to ask the all important theological questions that could have filled the gaping holes in their logic.
- The elite within earshot avoiding Him can say all that they want to about law and scripture and tradition, but the bottom line is that they have it completely upside down. Not only is it plain to Jesus and His disciples, it is more than clear to the common people that have to endure their self righteous religion every single day. The abbreviated list of damnable evidences could go on all day and into the night. Everyone there friend and foe in that temple knew it. Did any there really think God was not going to do anything about it?
- The Holy Ghost in the same passage kjv@Psalms:110:1 also tells us through David the Lord forever is a priest after the order of Melchizedek. A priest typically is an intermediary/intercessor between man and God the Father. How can God the Father be an intermediary between HIMSELF? We are told through David that His enemies will be made His footstool. There will be a time prior to His day of power that He will wait as the Father/Spirit readies and performs this. How can He wait at the right hand if He is expected by man to do this here and now before establishing the priesthood, ascension and this foretold time?
How is man reacting?:
- The common people heard Him gladly.
- Some are expecting the proof of the Messiah to be the re-emergent strength of Zion and It's rule over her enemies. They do not believe on Jesus because they have yet to see this power. They have skipped an entire section of prophecy essential to the acceptance of Messianic revelation.
Notes:
How precious would it have been for us as modern readers to have seen the two sides gather respectfully to reason together, examined and counter examined the evidences and threads of logic, pursued the enormity of truth with wisdom and sincerity. It was never about about that for the scribe nor Pharisee though; truth was something that they already had and Jesus was but an imposition upon that.
The work before, during and after Messiah's earthly ministry by the Holy Spirit is essential to the entirety of our faith. The previous context of Trinity plays huge in the story line of how God has laid and executed this plan out from beginning to end; the roles each member have been committed to. This time now with our generations appears to be a time of great ministry by the Holy Spirit leading toward the footstool and day of power establishing Christ's ultimate rule in Zion. The strict non-trinitarian monotheist doctrine ignores all of this work.
Jesus relies upon the testimony of the Holy Ghost and signs of confirmation from the Father to prove His claims; the testimony of three. The Holy Ghost relies much the same. The Father indeed as the other two. They are all pointing to and revealing each other being dependent on the works of one another to make themselves known, without each other choosing not to make themselves known. The word "trinity" does not need to be published for us because the operation of such has forever been exemplified and maintained.
Key Messages:
What does this say about our present condition?
- Truth (so called) here at ground level has less to do with substance and more about show. Truth here is what gets you over. Substance would mean looking into the case as presented, examining the evidences, asking the right questions, being open to being wrong or not fully right. Truth would be not wearing religion as an ornament to provide you favor or elevation above others or even material benefit.
- Truth here is also the perception of strength. People will blindly follow an evil tyrant or worse if that is where they perceive power being. We cannot say that it is not so because history proves us horribly wrong as does most present circumstance.
