kjv@Matthew:13:44 @ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

kjv@Matthew:13:45 @ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

kjv@Matthew:13:46 @ Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

What is man believing/doing?:

Listening to another of Jesus' parables

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

to seek understanding

Notes:

The use of a singular object pearl or treasure is intentional; it is but one object as in church/bride/body. The price for Him to do that was not only what He had in savings, but the profit from the sale of everything else He possessed. No person other than the Son of God would have the assets required to pay this great of price; He pays it joyfully.

No where here or elsewhere are we ourselves told to sell all and buy anything, we are told to sell all and follow Him (which we will likely find is impossible eye of a needle for us unless done by God)

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?

As with each of these parables, we are not starting from the hidden understanding that needs yet to be given, we are starting from our own determinations. If an atheist and a believer can come up with the same understanding by reading this, that mutual understanding is not the inaccessible one meant to be given.
Once the initial understanding is explained, it still must be committed to the process of the parable of the sower (which the majority of hearers are unwilling to do) in order to become the fruitful understanding sought.
