Today's notes: They Cried the More

Context:

• Before - Mother's request
  
• After - Hosanna
  

What is man believing/doing?:

• following Jesus in multitudes
  
• rebuking those crying out for mercy
  
• following Jesus after receiving sight
  

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

• fame, spectacle, desire for mercy
  
• others should hold their peace, perhaps during sermon, perhaps difficult to hear in midst of multitude
  

Notes:

Blindness, while it may not require immediate disruptive attention to many is certainly an immediate concern if you are the one having to wrestle it. The blind today for the most part have been able to adapt and even thrive (not to lessen their personal struggle). In that day however, there was little for the largely unskilled blind population to do but beg for the generosity of others.

I have often wondered what these many people's lives were like after their healings. As much of a blessing as it would be to receive one's sight for example, there to would be a monumental challenge adapting into a visual world. One's source of income would likely have to be abandoned etc... Not to say that it isn't all welcomed, just that the implications on one's life could be earth shaking and possibly disastrous; like winning the lottery. Something as elemental as sight could also lead one into a whole new sphere of sin.

In a spiritual sense we are very much recent recipients of sight as well. Best then to pick up immediately and follow the one who has seen all of eternity Himself.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?

1. Distractions and rude outbursts are what we dislike most to see. There is time and place and order to all things. It is typically amid disorder that we learn most about our Lord however seeing Him not as cold and academic and distant, but seeing Him immediate and touching, keenly aware of human needs outside the scope of common perception.
