What is man believing/doing?:
- denying that it is possible to take offense in Jesus
- denying that it is possible to deny Jesus
What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:
- the belief that in this moment of impending danger one is prepared even to die for Jesus
Notes:
The typical pre-game speech encourages the team to draw tight ranks, to hold the line, watch each other's back. What happened to removing mountains and casting them into the sea? Binding on earth what is to be bound in heaven? The least of seeds becoming the greatest? Two or three gathered agreed together? The obvious answer is that for that to happen this has to happen; it does not come just because we wish it to be so hard enough. The not so obvious answer is that what ever desire be, it has to be in union with the will of God for it to be done by the Father. This is the will of the Father, as offensive at first sight as that may be.
Key Messages:
What does this say about our present condition?
- Offense seems such a large word. How could it be that all men take offense? Do I take offense? Perhaps we whittle it down to a minor irritation or uncertainty the majority of time. It is not until it demands something greater from us/something we'd rather not do/something immediate, then it seems more bothersome. Does that measure offense? What if it is to mean being broken all the way back down to the rawest human form, that nothing that you have prepared for all this time had any resemblance to what you would be established in had you been built up and established by Christ? That everything that you had made yourself out to be now stood in the way? For the true heart, it is liberating. For heart that believes itself to be true it is ultimately an offense.
