( FaithOfJesus thread begun by rRandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Matthew:4:1-11

kjv@Matthew:4:1 @ Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

kjv@Matthew:4:2 @ And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

kjv@Matthew:4:3 @ And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

kjv@Matthew:4:4 @ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

kjv@Matthew:4:5 @ Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

kjv@Matthew:4:6 @ And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

kjv@Matthew:4:7 @ Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

kjv@Matthew:4:8 @ Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

kjv@Matthew:4:9 @ And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

kjv@Matthew:4:10 @ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

kjv@Matthew:4:11 @ Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Today's notes: Temptation

Context:

What is man believing/doing?:

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

Notes:

Jesus' baptism did not end at the Jordan with John, it continued on, this being the first of a continued string of "If thou art" and "If thou wilt" statements from various sorts. What proves that He is the Son of God is that He gave Himself fully to the Father, not having to prove anything but His obedience even unto death. He is the Son of God solely because the Father proved Him to be.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. All other forms of humanly concocted religion are about having to prove who you are and what your will is to do; it is about drawing you out to get you to do something else to prove your worth rather than surrender such impulse and submerse yourself in God's will. If it is God's will, He will prove you.
  2. The word of scripture without spiritual discernment is effectively no more than our good intention. It is easy to be led into bad courses by good intentions and or the deliberate misuse of those scriptures by malcontents.
  3. The gravities and momentums around us are so contrary to this proper course that it is a constant test of our resolve to submit, allowance to be led, will for obedience. The mandatory link must at all times be the spiritual discernment of scripture therefore divine will.
