kjv@Matthew:8:2 @ And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

kjv@Matthew:8:3 @ And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

kjv@Matthew:8:4 @ And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Today's notes:

Context:

What is man believing/doing?:

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

Notes:

dict:all leprosy

kjv@Mark:1:41 Mark adds "moved with compassion"

priest had power to diagnose leprosy, segregate from others, pronounce when one has been cleansed of and receive sacrifice from, but not to heal

leprosy often used as illustration of man's sin nature and our segregation

Jesus does not appear to set aside all leprosy in His earthly ministry, only specific instances of it; same as other disease and defect. It surely is His future will, but as of this time it must be conjectured that it somehow serves a purpose and that His death and resurrection must be firmly in place first. It can be theorized that no single element of the curse can be rightly lifted until the entire curse be gone.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. People are willing to follow the spectacle of Jesus as long as He is meeting their needs/expectations. The moment He turns to request they serve His command or they sense that He causes them danger from other authority or He serves the Father's command in ways unexpected, many (most) (all) go running.
  2. As much as the many miracles of Jesus meant to the many that received or witnessed them, they had no more weight in the long run than did the familiar position and authority of the chief priests and Sadducee and crises, even though they knew them to be hypocrites and cheats and attention grabbers.
