Notes:

Was it the Pharisee's kind intention to save Jesus from Herod? No rather it was his intention to scare Jesus into leaving. Where was Jesus to go outside of Herod Antipas' reach? Far distant from where Jesus would be of any concern to the Pharisees. The mention of Herod is a vehicle employed by the Pharisee to transport Jesus out of the way by intimidation. For anyone less than a prophet the ploy probably would have worked. The fact is that Antipas is haunted by Jesus thinking that He is the John the Baptist whom he had beheaded; he has already killed this prophet once. When Herod finally has the chance to kill Jesus, he does little more than mock Him and send Him back to Pilate for what ever Pilate chooses to do.

The embarrassing thing for this certain Pharisee illustrated by Jesus' response is that if he who presumes to speak for this king was to return and tell "that fox" anything, he probably wouldn't even receive audience with the king and if he did would likely endure the wrath to the potentate for making such plans known to the king's presumed enemy. How must this pawn feel then being compared to the fathers of old that persecuted and killed Israel's many divinely appointed prophets?

The amazing thing to be considered is that the establishment of our Judaic roots from the murmurings against Moses onward is not a establishment by popular consensus, it is an establishment by popular rebellion thus proving it's establishment solely by the hand of God. That is not to say that this rebellion is unanimous, it is to concede that what support the prophets and other holy men did have was inconsequential to the outcome as it did not keep these messengers from feeling one against all the rest nor kept them alive with the earthbound living. Man at large has been on a separate page (perhaps in a different book) than God and yet God has been able to establish what it is that HE has even against their will and strong often vile judgments else their rather passive unengaged infrequent support.

Much of the same can be said of us and our Christian roots as well; the focus however better placed on the obedience and faithfulness of Christ Jesus Himself!
