kjv@Matthew:12:19 @ He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

kjv@Matthew:12:20 @ A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. We are largely expecting for a leader or messiah to act much different than this. Judgment would be shown by force, there would be striving to set things right, there would a cry of His against any/all opposition, any and every opportunity would be taken to advertise and promote His cause. Because we do not see that from Jesus we often misinterpret that as weakness or timidness. We admire that in a teacher, but not a ruler.
  2. The modern belief in Jesus has been to this point a mostly gentile trust. The Jews see this as proof against Jesus instead of a fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy. Belief can easily be encouraged/restrained by critique of the types of people following after it. The most common tactic of all non-believers is to call into question the character of the adherent with the deepest guttural sentiments. And it works! Doesn't mean that they aren't dead wrong however.
