Today's Verse:
kjv@Matthew:21:12-17
kjv@Matthew:21:12 @ And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
kjv@Matthew:21:13 @ And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
kjv@Matthew:21:14 @ And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
kjv@Matthew:21:15 @ And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
kjv@Matthew:21:16 @ And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
kjv@Matthew:21:17 @ And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
Today's notes: Praise Perfected
Context:
- Before - Jesus Prophet of Nazareth
- After - No fruit on it henceforth
What is man believing/doing?:
- buying and selling at the temple (again after previous rebuke kjv@John:2:15)
- exchanging Jewish coin for roman at excessive rates (again/still)
- coming to the temple for Jesus to heal
- confronting Jesus over what the children were repeating, being sore displeased over everything He is doing
What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:
- these markets are being allowed by the chief priests
- roman coin is forbidden for the temple tax
- the blind and lame in Jerusalem had not the same opportunity to meet with Jesus as those for instance in the coastal areas of Galilee
- they refuse to believe that Jesus comes in the name of the Lord and hearing Hosanna repeated in the children's voices is most infuriating
Notes:
kjv@Psalms:8:2 I cannot find the exact perfecting praise quote, it must have been common enough at that time. The closest thing I see includes"because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger". If the same/similar thought, the enemy is close by in the chief positions of the temple in fact; they are the ones about to strike back.
The times of David are looked back as high point times by all Jerusalem. David himself however constantly made it known that there were deceptive forces within wanting nothing less than his blood, wicked opposer's who thought God to be distant and not watching, who would not require them of their vile schemes and acts. Where did these unrighteous ones go? And who of that later age had stood against them? Who stands against them now?
Key Messages:
What does this say about our present condition?
- It is said that the reformer's work is never finished, better put never but begun. Corruption resumes in short order.
- Wondrous works have little bearing on the hardened heart. Often they only go to harden displeasure even more.
