( FaithOfJesus thread begun by rRandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Matthew:22:41-46

kjv@Matthew:22:41 @ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

kjv@Matthew:22:42 @ Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

kjv@Matthew:22:43 @ He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

kjv@Matthew:22:44 @ The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

kjv@Matthew:22:45 @ If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

kjv@Matthew:22:46 @ And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Today's notes: LORD said unto my Lord

Context:

What is man believing/doing?:

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

Notes:

dict:all Trinity dict:all Godhead dict:all incarnat dict:all sovereign

There is an intense convection of theological underpinnings occurring on both sides, what men believe to be true on the one side, what Jesus knows to be true on the other. Incarnation for instance is rejected by the Pharisee because of their doctrine of God not being able to contaminate HIS holiness, their rejection of God being one triune godhead; yet here He is. Jesus knows the issue to be true because He has lived it, the question is how does one make others to know it as well.

There is only so much argument that can be done before such a conversation simply shuts down. Jesus does not even go down that endless road only to make the issue known. It is to say "you have an issue with me because you know not your own scriptures... you have bent the scriptures to say what you wanted them to say... now that I am here to correct you you are lashing back at me for even making the suggestion".

We should also consider some previous context, not all of Jesus' enemies are enemies because of some correctable misunderstanding, some are enemies because they know who He is and want what He has from the Father. It is hard to fathom, but nonetheless true. We know that at least one person Satan knows and we know that his demons do as well. Is it outrageous then to believe that even if a man does not know himself that the principality that he serves is fully aware? that the subset of his own fears and ambitions are being used to accomplish another's more sinister plans? Where does one's doctrine and theology prevent them from erring if their heart itself is as duplicitous as Jesus has shown it to be?

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. Much of what is happening today in general is because of the perception that God does not/will not hold anyone to account. Their mistreatment of Christians is because Christians believe that He will.
  2. The scriptural evidences of Trinity and Godhead and Incarnation mean little even to the religious. The depth of meaning and consequence of these items rather should be foundational. Sound doctrine and theology are the responsibility of the evangelist to sound upon deaf ears, who know what they know and serve what they serve regardless simply because it suits them.
  3. It is easier for the true follower to stay silent, stand not against but neither for as an academic observer against the brash collaboration of our Lord's enemies. Easier, but is it right?
