kjv@Revelation:14:12 @ Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

( FaithOfJesus thread begun by rRandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Luke:12:35-48

kjv@Luke:12:35 @ Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

kjv@Luke:12:36 @ And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

kjv@Luke:12:37 @ Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

kjv@Luke:12:38 @ And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

kjv@Luke:12:39 @ And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

kjv@Luke:12:40 @ Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

kjv@Luke:12:41 @ Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

kjv@Luke:12:42 @ And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

kjv@Luke:12:43 @ Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

kjv@Luke:12:44 @ Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

kjv@Luke:12:45 @ But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

kjv@Luke:12:46 @ The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

kjv@Luke:12:47 @ And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

kjv@Luke:12:48 @ But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Notes:

We are coming from coveting not and seeking the kingdom first to a girded about as engaged servant/ministers with lights burning. It seems quite natural that if a servant was not hording up for the life of leisure and not burdened so with daily cares that it would be much more likely that the returning Lord would find His wise servant so doing as to be given great reward in due season.

As to what the opposite of this would be, we are told of a self indulgent house manager abusing his staff. It is hard to imagine such a man as being Christian, but he would have to be if given the title manager. It's even harder to imagine this to be common enough to make such an analogy unless he is performing said abuse in order to provide for himself such daily cares and hording towards leisure. It is they now being used to serve his own purpose. If truly common, it must speak of our treatment of each other as believers who yet seek so after such material gain. Rather, the Lord's will is to serve one another the greatest serving the as the least. This cannot be done by those serving covetousness and anxiousness and self indulgence as if it were service to their Lord. The complication and true motivation to this is that we just don't know when the Lord is going to peek in at His own door to find us doing. We have been given much, therefore much is required.

I am trying to think of how this might presently be observed in the modern church life. Churches are shopped and chosen on the bases of how they best serve the needs and desires of the individual member and individual family. Sermons/seminars/classes/studies/devotional materials are crafted and distributed towards how the individual can better get everything they need out of life. Service has little to do with service towards each other and more like a show where one sits backs and lets the entertainment of a few come to him/her. Those that do serve are often quoted as being tired, being beat down, being heavily burdened and burned out; with good reason. The blame can be distributed just as much to these few servants however because that is the way that church's service has been constructed, the congregation in a sense is only meeting the expectation placed upon it (I think of the issue between Martha and Mary and how much more Martha made out her service than even the Lord wanted her to make). This too may be an out growth of the same covetousness and daily care in the front office that fills the pews and the community at large.

It is time for each of us individually to consider where we are at with the service that the Lord has given to each and every one of us and how much of it we are actually doing. Perhaps such a seemingly remote and distant parable is not as remote and distant as we would rather choose to believe.
