It is not just each man individually that is unrepentant at the confirmation of Jesus as Christ by sign and wonder, divine signature, it is the body of unrepentant men that coalesce together as a result to deny and destroy such plus Christ's believers. A light is lit that all may see. A light is lit regardless of what others may see of themselves because of it. By implication, it is a light lit that they can do nothing to put out, only to resist and thereby be shown to be of great darkness. In fact, it is so that men can see where they each are (have long been) minus the revealing knowledge of the light that should make them to better desire what is of the light and turn from what they now know to be the darkness. It is not everyone's desire however. It is only for those willing to turn away from the darkness, set aside that which they have been doing in the darkness, that which in the darkness they have rather loved. The light is almost as to reveal that there are but two bodies total. An individual is either an identifiable part of the body of darkness else he/she is of the body of light. If one's eye is single then only Christ Jesus can be that light, for only He has been lit in divine confirmation like no other. If not then single Christ Jesus then is confused with and clouded or put on the same level by whatever else might be thought of and presented by the body of darkness. The eye is not single then upon the light, it is single no matter how many other Christs occupy His space upon the darkness. In the Pharisee's case, he is fixed upon the veil of Moses instead of the diminishing light reflecting off Moses behind it making way for the soon and lasting greater light upon Christ.
