kjv@Revelation:14:12 @ Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Today's Verse:

kjv@Luke:12:22-34

kjv@Luke:12:22 @ And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

kjv@Luke:12:23 @ The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

kjv@Luke:12:24 @ Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

kjv@Luke:12:25 @ And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

kjv@Luke:12:26 @ If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

kjv@Luke:12:27 @ Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

kjv@Luke:12:28 @ If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

kjv@Luke:12:29 @ And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

kjv@Luke:12:30 @ For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

kjv@Luke:12:31 @ But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

kjv@Luke:12:32 @ Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

kjv@Luke:12:33 @ Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

kjv@Luke:12:34 @ For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Notes:

"Therefore" connects us back to the parable of the rich man and his storehouses. Jesus then leads His disciples through a serious of leading questions towards a specific destination He would rather have them approach towards, that of seeking the kingdom first. We have seen the covetous. Now we see the disciple in operation. kjv@Matthew:6:24 ties this to serving only one master.

The question becomes as to whether this particular form of self denial was hard coded as a demanded obedience or given as the spirit of a general direction. We have kjv@Acts:2:44-45 to show us that the earliest church saw this sell all command literally. kjv@Romans:15:25-26 kjv@2Corinthians:8:4 kjv@1Corinthians:16:3 kjv@2Corinthians:9:1 describe a quickly developing need of Paul's gentile churches to minister their abundance to this poor church. Perhaps it is not to say that either mode is wrong but, perhaps that both work in hand together. Seeking the kingdom first would at all times be the key thing. The kingdom can be more than just impoverishing one's self for the good of others, it can be selfishly sharing the Lord's abundance graciously given as one church community to those of the other self impoverished church community serving the Lord where poverty is best called for. Selling all and or giving all can be a continuous and bidirectional proposition and not necessarily just a one time up front voluntary obligation. There are of course other ways of reading this, let the reading prayerfully consider what is best in his/her case.

Key Messages:

Declaring Certainty

kjv@2Corinthians:9:7 @ Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

kjv@2Corinthians:9:8 @ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

kjv@Philippians:4:6 @ Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

kjv@Ecclesiastes:5:19 @ Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
