They see their obligation to sinners is to stay away. He sees His obligation to go out and save them. As plain as this distinction of faiths appears, one only has to go back into the Old Testament scriptures to find that these civic/religious figures were set up to be shepherds of the flock of Israel themselves and that this has been a constant problem with their leadership all along. They have been judged repeatedly for it. kjv@Ezekiel:34 goes as far as to say that because of these fattened shepherds the flock is driven astray. Now Jesus curiously puts it as one lost among one hundred when the odds are rather that 100 of 100 have gone astray. The object perhaps is that as many as ninety nine don't yet consider themselves as having gone astray. The picture of the word lost surprisingly goes as far as being destroyed. How many further would consider themselves destroyed? It is odd to see the vast majority as seeing and treating the single realistic as something detestable that they would never allow themselves to be near when realistically they are of the same or worsened states. I cannot help but return to the pronouncements of kjv@Ezekiel:34 to consider that this mass delusion is largely blamed on the fattened shepherds themselves.
