( FaithOfJesus thread begun by rRandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Luke:18:1-8

kjv@Luke:18:1 @ And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

kjv@Luke:18:2 @ Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

kjv@Luke:18:3 @ And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

kjv@Luke:18:4 @ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

kjv@Luke:18:5 @ Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

kjv@Luke:18:6 @ And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

kjv@Luke:18:7 @ And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

kjv@Luke:18:8 @ I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Notes:

Do you think it odd that God would call HIS people to stand for HIM, send HIS very own Son to suffer for the sins of many, that His enemies become ours, that we are treated by HIS enemies just as this Son was/is treated and by all of this that God would not avenge us these many enemies? Even a godless man at some point would tire of the petitions of the misused and judge towards avenging. Would GOD then be wrong to so judge in the favor of HIS saints obeying HIS Son that have long prayed for HIS just might?

We have just come from a passage about the kingdom of God being a message about the final judgement of mankind and the installment of Jesus Christ as king. We become timid messengers of that message not realizing that it is not simply judgment because God is such a judgmental guy, it is because of the avenging justice of a loving God held back temporarily for the hope of repentance from what has been done. One should not be so callous not expect judgment. Neither should one be so insolent as to think that avenging judgment is not deserved and certainly over due.

Why then has it not already come? Is it because the wicked are so strong as to hold it off? Is it because GOD is not there to begin with? Scripture insists that it is because it is both to try the hearts of the righteous and to give a chance to the potentially repentant.
