Today's Verse:

kjv@Luke:22:7-38

kjv@Luke:22:7 @ Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

kjv@Luke:22:8 @ And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

kjv@Luke:22:9 @ And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

kjv@Luke:22:10 @ And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

kjv@Luke:22:11 @ And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

kjv@Luke:22:12 @ And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

kjv@Luke:22:13 @ And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

kjv@Luke:22:14 @ And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

kjv@Luke:22:15 @ And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

kjv@Luke:22:16 @ For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

kjv@Luke:22:17 @ And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

kjv@Luke:22:18 @ For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

kjv@Luke:22:19 @ And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

kjv@Luke:22:20 @ Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

kjv@Luke:22:21 @ But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

kjv@Luke:22:22 @ And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

kjv@Luke:22:23 @ And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

kjv@Luke:22:24 @ And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

kjv@Luke:22:25 @ And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

kjv@Luke:22:26 @ But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

kjv@Luke:22:27 @ For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

kjv@Luke:22:28 @ Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

kjv@Luke:22:29 @ And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

kjv@Luke:22:30 @ That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

kjv@Luke:22:31 @ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

kjv@Luke:22:32 @ But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

kjv@Luke:22:33 @ And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

kjv@Luke:22:34 @ And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

kjv@Luke:22:35 @ And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

kjv@Luke:22:36 @ Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

kjv@Luke:22:37 @ For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

kjv@Luke:22:38 @ And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

Notes:

One possibly could not do better learning about our Master and His purposes than to study His all words of this one night. John provides the most detailed account of the discourse presented to the twelve kjv@John:13:1-17:26, however all accounts add much breadth of further light kjv@Matthew:26:17-35 kjv@Mark:14:13-31.

The first essential to grasp is that this is not to be a story of what sin man does upon Jesus, it is what Jesus obediently followed the Father through without the slightest reservation, for the sake of those that are His own. It had been said kjv@Matthew:10:28 "fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell"; this act of obedience by Jesus is the ultimate reflection upon that. What ever Jesus is to suffer physically in the flesh at the hand of man is nothing to be compared to the suffering of being a eternal triune member of the Godhead separated for a time from Father and Spirit and the ever living. He suffers all this and yet retains the hope and assurance that God will not suffer HIS "Holy One" from seeing corruption kjv@Psalms:16:10 kjv@Isaiah:53.

In a similar vain, for all those that have sinned there is one type of baptism (unto repentance), for the single one who has not ever sinned this is His baptism. Because of His own baptism our baptism into Him is to work.

In order for Jesus to best convey all of this, He relies heavily on deep/memorable symbolisms and gestures throughout the evening, the washing of feet, being the true vine, being no longer servants but friends of, times like a woman in travail, many mansions in the Father's house. He is found exhorting, warning, predicting, introducing the Holy Ghost as the Comforter, and most amazingly praying before them direct to the Father on their behalf more so than anytime else recorded.

Is there any doubt then, given this tremendously rich and insightful context, that when Matthew/Mark/Luke focus more then on the Holy Communion to bread and wine that Jesus is planting a lasting imagery into our hearts of what His obedient walk to Calvary and beyond is supposed to forevermore mean? Search that then and one will find the answer to all other things.

Let every man/women examine himself/herself. Does the simple act of Communion mean anything less to each man/woman/child than this Messiah has meant for it to be for each partaking believer? Does the image therein have any less effect or influence upon each heart and soul than divinely required? Whether the wine and bread are literally the flesh and blood or symbolically, can there be any difference in what cost and what effect it is to mean?

Key Messages:

kjv@John:17:1 @ These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

kjv@John:17:2 @ As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

kjv@John:17:3 @ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

kjv@John:17:4 @ I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

kjv@John:17:5 @ And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

kjv@John:17:6 @ I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

kjv@John:17:7 @ Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

kjv@John:17:8 @ For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

kjv@John:17:9 @ I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

kjv@John:17:10 @ And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
