What is God's righteousness observed doing?:

Praying to the Father that "this cup" be taken.

What does this tell us about God's righteousness?:

"This cup" cannot be the betrayal, trial, scourging, crucifixion or death as all of these He knows and has spoken of. If it were than He would be doubting either the Father or His own ability. It is not that He want's the Father to come up with another plan.
I believe that before man got his hands on Jesus the "arm of the LORD" kjv@Isaiah:53 did. This is not about what man inflicted upon the Lamb it is all about the Father proceeding forward as prophesied. This is the punishment that was due man (the man legally could not punish himself and therefore could not punish the substitution made for him in Jesus). Man will be used as a tool, but he will not to be the principal. It will be for him as with a animal sacrifice, man will have his hands on the innocent lamb but only to transfer his guilt onto innocent in exchange for the sacrifice's innocence.

How is man reacting?:

Sorrow may be effecting the others as sleep.

Notes:

Jesus began to be sore amazed: Same concept as disciples when He walked to the boat and calmed the wind kjv@Mark:6:51, as one looking at an angel at the empty tomb kjv@Mark:16:5-6. Something intense has suddenly began to affect Him; something intense even for Him. What? From who?

Very heavy: Sorrow/grief placed upon Lamb by LORD: kjv@Isaiah:53:4 borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we, kjv@Isaiah:53:10 he hath put him to grief.

Previous judgments had a overwhelming heavy effect on the prophets of old (examples: Jeremiah kjv@Lamentations:1:12 Lord afflicted me, David kjv@Psalms:69:1-3 deep mire... no standing... while I wait for my God, kjv@Psalms:88:14-16 ... while I suffer thy terrors... thy wrath... thy terrors have cut me off. Also kjv@Jeremiah:23:9 kjv@Ezekiel:3:14 kjv@Daniel:7:28 kjv@Daniel:10:8 kjv@Habakkuk:3:2 kjv@Habakkuk:3:16). There seems to be evidence in holy men that this heaviness accompanies God's immediate judgment. Prophets tasted in part for the tiny nation what Jesus took upon Himself for the whole of mankind in full. It began now and did not end until "It is finished".

This explanation affords Him the probability that He is not praying that the cross be avoided, but the stunning agony of the cup of God's judgment physically upon His human body be taken note of by the reader. Remember that He is soon to be sweating blood for no apparent reason and an angel has to come to minister strength to Him to continue on from the garden before the trial and scourging even begins. Why else would this be?

"Sorrowful unto death" should not be understood as sorry that He will soon die, but physically dieing in human form from exceeding sorrow at this very moment. The "hour might pass" kjv@Mark:14:35 is this present hour in it's uncompromised form; now the next hour comes kjv@Mark:14:41.

What does this say about our present condition?

I fear that our casual understanding of this passage eliminates God's judgment on man and amplifies man's judgment of Jesus. Our thought is that this is what our sin did to Jesus instead of this is what the Father avoided having to do to us because Jesus stood in our place. Our sin is amplified and made fully visible during all of this, but it is not the penalty Jesus is paying for us.
