Today's Verse:

kjv@Mark:3:7-12

kjv@Mark:3:7 @ But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,

kjv@Mark:3:8 @ And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.

kjv@Mark:3:9 @ And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.

kjv@Mark:3:10 @ For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.

kjv@Mark:3:11 @ And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

kjv@Mark:3:12 @ And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

Notes:

Crowd size and manner has forced Jesus first outside of the cities and now into a boat. We see nowadays in large scale events such as sports or rock concerts crowds press towards the field or stage crushing the people in front without conscience. Security has had to become well versed at crowd control through a life time of study and deliberate measure.

It is wise to consider what those that are seeking to destroy Jesus are having to study their way through. The crowds that Jesus is drawing could easily turn on them if not handled skillfully. It is my contention that much of what they will question Jesus with from here on out is not for their own intellectual interest, but to begin detaching support from Jesus. That is why we see them pepper Jesus with questions such as divorce a great many are both familiar and opinionated (defensive) about.

It is wise to consider also what God is having to work through as well. One thing is the crowd or pack mentality of men

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. A loose/nebulous notion of Messiah is one thing, something people will flock to (especially the desperate), a narrower/defined concept of Christ in His righteousness is another thing that will likely drive people away (especially the calmly self righteous) no matter what that holy righteousness might be.
  2. An unclean spirit tosses a few men into the fire, takes over a cemetery or such and townspeople believe and listen to it's every word. A Messiah comes and heals a multitude, casts out spirits, feeds thousands and they become not so sure and divided. A movie portrays the demonic and audiences are terrorized at the realness. A movie depicts the healing of a withered hand and they reject it as utterly impossible. How is it that the evil makes sense enough to trigger fight or flight, but the divine is needless nonsense when defined by righteousness?
