Today's Verse:

kjv@Mark:6:30-44

kjv@Mark:6:30 @ And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

kjv@Mark:6:31 @ And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

kjv@Mark:6:32 @ And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

kjv@Mark:6:33 @ And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

kjv@Mark:6:34 @ And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

kjv@Mark:6:35 @ And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

kjv@Mark:6:36 @ Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

kjv@Mark:6:37 @ He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

kjv@Mark:6:38 @ He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

kjv@Mark:6:39 @ And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

kjv@Mark:6:40 @ And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

kjv@Mark:6:41 @ And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

kjv@Mark:6:42 @ And they did all eat, and were filled.

kjv@Mark:6:43 @ And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

kjv@Mark:6:44 @ And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

Key Concepts:

What is God's righteousness observed doing?:

What does this tell us about God's righteousness?:

How is man reacting?:

Notes:

For all that we heard about in the Nazareth region about un-repentance and rejection and judgment look what we are seeing here. Where previous Jesus had to do everything to get people to take interest, here people are chasing His boat along the shoreline while He is trying to give His disciples simple rest. Do you really think that He is not going to hold off the groups personal plans and have compassion on these many boat chasers? Nine to fifteen thousand of them by best estimate?

Was Jesus just showing off feeding so many with so little? or was He conveying something much bigger? Is the message about fish and loaves or is it about HIS compassion? Is the message about the baskets left over or the sense of spiritual fulfillment these thousands left that evening away with? Yes the fish really did happen and it is a miracle. What is a miracle worth to us far removed however if it doesn't show us what we most want to know? Divine compassion!

Shepherdless sheep. Where are their shepherds? What are their shepherds off plotting? Why are they plotting it? Can they really be called then shepherds? shepherds of what? Contrast that with the Good Shepherd Jesus. Where is He? What is He planning? How has His plan changed to accommodate the situation? How is He leaving them as they go back home? What is He shepherding them in?

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. Man's compassion, though compassion for others it is, is left only to send those they are compassionate toward away so to make for their own. Truly that is all man can do; what other options are out there in the wilderness? God is not limited by such and as such can do that which man cannot; thus it is a compassion without earthly limits. Sending them off to make for their own is not the same as compassion when it is in one's power to do something more and more immediate. It in fact is well within in God's power, thus this is HIS "more" and better compassion as is only righteous.
