Today's notes:
Context:
- Before - My yoke
- After - nor hear His voice in the streets
What is man believing/doing?:
- seeking to destroy the public image of Jesus
- debating with the Lord of the Sabbath over the details of the Sabbath
What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:
- The public has been raised on strict observance of the Sabbath based much more on it's sacrifice rather than mercy. It is easier to tie them down to the familiarity of their upbringing than it is to counter the unfamiliarity of the sweeping mighty works Jesus is capable of producing.
- They interpret that the God can not/will not become flesh, dwells amongst them only in the form of the Law and Ceremony and historical works. The Righteous One is to be a man empowered by God, not the Lord of Sabbaths Himself.
Notes:
How did the occasion of eating transpire? Did the disciples ask the Master? Did the Master command the disciples? Was this exhibition planned? What were they doing that they couldn't have prepared for it themselves? Did anyone of their hosts offer to prepare a Sabbath meal for them?
Key Messages:
What does this say about our present condition?
- It is difficult for us to recognize the slight of hand, the shifting of balance, the perception of priority. We resort to the familiar with its faults and all. We comfortably stand behind those seeking to destroy more often than those that seek to liberate.
