Frequent message that those of one's own family may be source of opposition.

Mary His mother is of great curiosity here. From all her experience and angelic revelation she knows Jesus to be Christ, the question then must be how Jesus is going about it and the position He has put her remaining family in. Whether she agrees fully with her other children need not be known because she stands with them without in all appearance. Her expectation of how Jesus would be going about this differs greatly from her Holy Father's.

Jesus' reaction may seem harsh, but had they waited till He was not in front of the many inquiring, He would not have been placed in such a defensive position.

Key Messages:

What does this say about our present condition?
  1. Doing the will of God more likely resembles doing what we see as being right in our own eyes. What we see as right is typically a mixture of the path of least opposition and the path of least toil and what most serves our further interests best. Those individuals actually seeking out and doing God's will often seem most disruptive to our steady flow.
  2. One can know as fact the identity and mission of a "doer" with all emotional alliance and consent and yet find oneself unintentionally in a position publicly of portraying the exact opposite to others.
  3. Nearly everyone operates from a desire to do what is best. With so much observable variation and contradiction it is evident that what is best is nebulous and vain at best if not centered fully on God's expressed will.
