Focus:

kjv@Revelation:14:12 @ Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

( FaithOfJesus thread begun by rRandyP )

Today's Verse:

kjv@Matthew:7:24-29

kjv@Matthew:7:24 @ Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock;

kjv@Matthew:7:25 @ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

kjv@Matthew:7:26 @ And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand;

kjv@Matthew:7:27 @ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

kjv@Matthew:7:28 @ And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine;

kjv@Matthew:7:29 @ For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Today's notes: These sayings of mine

Context:

What is man believing/doing?:

What is making man to believe/do as he is doing?:

Notes:

Matthew:5:1-12 - attitudes of believers instilled by Jesus

Matthew:5:13-16 - collected as a body to showcase a work only possible by Jesus

Matthew:6:25-34 - capable by Christ's work of being calm, reliant on God's providence

Matthew:7:1-6 - capable by Christ's work of unfeigned and measured judgment

Matthew:7:7-12 - capable by Christ's work of fulfilling Law and prophets by doing for others as Christ has done for you

Matthew:7:13-14 - capable by Christ's work of taking the narrow way

Matthew:7:15-23 - capable by Christ's work to be cautious/gaurded of constant corruptions of doctrine

Matthew:7:24-29 - having been built on rock to withstand what will be thrown up against us

Compare His intention here to all the things we've talked about as to what/why man is doing what he is. The constant thread seems from what we've examined that we do not know God nor what He is capable of and therefore go about this on our own (if at all)

Key Messages:

    What does this say about our present condition?
  1. We hear what we want to hear and disregard the rest. We judge the sermon by what we are able to do with it by our own resource and not what He is able to do on us in these regards by His.
  2. Even if we do hear we are likely not to do. Man's problem in the past isn't just in getting something started, it is in establishing and maintaining what has been started more than a few days/years/generations. Getting started in this case requires turning from the direction every other faith has gone, planting and establishing a foothold, sustaining and advancing that position, doing it not by owns own power but by His.
  3. Everyone faces the rains and winds of this life, seeking to build a place of shelter for their own. The true follower also faces the inclusion of those whose foundation has been shattered and shelter washed away, those whose dwelling is about to be shaken. The base of our shelter properly should be as wide as a universal body of fellow believers that the Lord has worked to bring together whose footing are drilled deep into His rock solid truth. How easy it is though for us to loose sight of that and make do with far less.
