Psalms 55

vw@Psalms:55:1 @ Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not Yourself from my supplication.

vw@Psalms:55:2 @ Give attention to me, and hear me; I am restless in my meditation, and murmur;

vw@Psalms:55:3 @ because of the voice of the enemy, from the oppression of the wicked; for they drop down trouble upon me, and in wrath they hate me.

vw@Psalms:55:4 @ My heart writhes within me; and the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

vw@Psalms:55:5 @ Fear and trembling have come upon me, and horror overwhelms me.

vw@Psalms:55:6 @ And I said, Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.

vw@Psalms:55:7 @ Lo, I would wander far off; I would abide in the wilderness. Selah.

vw@Psalms:55:8 @ I would hasten my escape from the rushing wind and tempest.

vw@Psalms:55:9 @ Swallow up, O Lord, and divide their tongues; for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

vw@Psalms:55:10 @ Day and night they go around upon its walls; wickedness and trouble are also in its midst.

vw@Psalms:55:11 @ Lust is in its midst; oppression and guile do not depart from its streets.

vw@Psalms:55:12 @ For it is not an enemy who reproaches me, then I could bear it. It is not one who hates me who magnified himself against me, or I would hide myself from him;

vw@Psalms:55:13 @ but it is you, a man my equal, my friend and acquaintance.

vw@Psalms:55:14 @ We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in the throng.

vw@Psalms:55:15 @ Let death seize them, and let them go down alive into Sheol; for evil is among them and in their dwellings.

vw@Psalms:55:16 @ As for me, I will call upon God, and Jehovah will deliver me.

vw@Psalms:55:17 @ Evening and morning and at noon I meditate and am in a stir; and He will hear my voice.

vw@Psalms:55:18 @ He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me; for there were many against me.

vw@Psalms:55:19 @ The Mighty God will hear and testify to them, even He who abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God.

vw@Psalms:55:20 @ He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; he has broken his covenant.

vw@Psalms:55:21 @ His flattery has been with forked tongue, and war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

vw@Psalms:55:22 @ Cast your burden upon Jehovah, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to totter.

vw@Psalms:55:23 @ But You, O God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction; bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.
