* Then David said , This [is ] the house of the LORD God , and this [is ] the altar of the burnt offering for Israel . * And David commanded the strangers in the land of Israel to be gathered . And he set masons to cut squared stones to build the house of God . * And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates , and for the couplings , and bronze in abundance without weight , * and also cedar trees without number , for the Sidonians and the Tyrians brought in cedar trees in abundance to David . * And David said , Solomon my son [is ] young and tender , and the house to be built for the LORD is to be highly magnificent , for a name and for beauty to all the lands . I will now prepare for it . And David prepared abundantly before his death . * And he called for Solomon his son , and commanded him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel . * And David said to Solomon , My son , as for me , it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the LORD my God . * But the word of the LORD came to me , saying , You have shed much blood and have made great wars . You shall not build a house to My name because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight . * Behold , a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest . And I will give him rest from all his enemies all around . For his name shall be Solomon , and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days . * He shall build a house for My name . And he shall be My son , and I [will be ] his Father . And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever . * Now , my son , may the LORD be with you and bless you , and build the house of the LORD your God as He has said of you . * Only may the LORD give you wisdom and understanding , and direct you concerning Israel , so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God . * Then you shall prosper , if you take heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments with which the LORD charged Moses , concerning Israel . Be strong and of good courage . Do not fear , nor be dismayed . * And , behold , in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold , and a million talents of silver , and of bronze and iron without weight , for it is in abundance . I have prepared timber also , and stone , and you may add to them . * And there [are ] many workmen with you , cutters and workers of stone and timber , and all kinds of skillful men for every kind of work . * Of the gold , the silver , and the bronze , and the iron , there is no number . Arise and be doing , and may the LORD be with you . * And David commanded all the rulers of Israel to help Solomon his son , saying , * Is not the LORD your God with you ? And has He not given you rest on every side ? For He has given the people of the land into my hand . And the land is humbled before the LORD and before His people . * Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God . Arise therefore and build the sanctuary of the LORD God , to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD , and the holy vessels of God , into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD . * And David was old and full of days , and he made his son Solomon king over Israel . * And [he ] gathered all the rulers of Israel , with the priests and the Levites . * And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward . And their number by their heads , man by man , was thirty-eight thousand . * Of these , twenty-four thousand [were ] to set forward the work of the house of the LORD , and six thousand officers and judges . * And four thousand [were ] gatekeepers , and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which [David ] made for praising . * And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi , Gershon , Kohath and Merari . * Of the men of Gershon [were ] Laadan and Shimei . * The sons of Laadan : Jehiel the chief , and Zetham , and Joel , three . * The sons of Shimei : Shelomith , and Haziel , and Haran , three . These [were ] the chief of the fathers of Laadan . * And the sons of Shimei : Jahath , Zina , and Jeush , and Beriah . These four [were ] the sons of Shimei . * And Jahath [was ] the chief , and Zizah the second . But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons . Therefore they were in one roster , according to [their ] father 's house . * The sons of Kohath : Amram , Izhar , Hebron , and Uzziel , four . * The sons of Amram : Aaron and Moses . And Aaron was separated so that he should sanctify the most holy things , he and his sons forever , to burn incense before the LORD , to minister to Him , and to bless in His name forever . * And [as to ] Moses the man of God , his sons were named of the tribe of Levi . * The sons of Moses : Gershom and Eliezer . * Of the sons of Gershom , Shebuel [was ] the chief . * And the sons of Eliezer : Rehabiah the chief . And Eliezer had no other sons , but the sons of Rehabiah were very many . * Of the sons of Izhar , Shelomith [was ] the chief ; * of the sons of Hebron , Jeriah the first , Amariah the second , Jahaziel the third , and Jekameam the fourth . * Of the sons of Uzziel , Michah the first , and Jesiah the second . * The sons of Merari : Mahli and Mushi . The sons of Mahli : Eleazar and Kish . * And Eleazar died , and had no sons , but had daughters . And their brothers , the sons of Kish , took them . * The sons of Mushi : Mahli , and Eder , and Jeremoth , three . * These [were ] the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers , the chief of the fathers , as they were counted by number of names by their heads , the ones who did the work for the service of the house of the LORD , from the age of twenty years and upward . * For David said , The LORD God of Israel has given rest to His people so that they may dwell in Jerusalem forever , * and also to the Levites , so that they shall no [more ] carry the tabernacle , nor any of its vessels for its service . * For by the last words of David the Levites [were ] numbered from twenty years old and above , * because their office [was ] to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD , in the courts and in the chambers , and in the purifying of all holy things , and the work of the service of the house of God * both for the showbread , and for the fine flour for food offering , and for the unleavened cakes , and for the pan , and for that which is fried , and for all kinds of measure and size , * and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD , and likewise at evening . * And [they ] were to offer all burnt sacrifices to the LORD in the sabbath , in the new moons , and on the set feasts , by number , according to the order commanded to them , continually before the LORD , * and that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation , and the charge of the Holy Place , and the charge of their brothers , the sons of Aaron , in the service of the house of the LORD . * And the divisions of the sons of Aaron [were ]: The sons of Aaron : Nadab and Abihu , Eleazar , and Ithamar . * But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no sons . And Eleazar and Ithamar were priests . * And David distributed them according to their offices in their service , both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar , and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar . * And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar . And so they were divided . Among the sons of Eleazar [were ] sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers , and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers . * So they divided them by lot , one sort with another . For the governors of the sanctuary , and governors of the house of God , were of the sons of Eleazar , and of the sons of Ithamar . * And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe , of the Levites , wrote them before the king , and the rulers , and Zadok the priest , and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar , and [before ] the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites . One principal household was taken for Eleazar , and one taken for Ithamar . * Now the first lot came out to Jehoiarib , the second to Jedaiah , * the third to Harim , the fourth to Seorim , * the fifth to Malchijah , the sixth to Mijamin , * the seventh to Hakkoz , the eighth to Abijah , * the ninth to Jeshua , the tenth to Shecaniah , * the eleventh to Eliashib , the twelfth to Jakim , * the thirteenth to Huppah , the fourteenth to Jeshebeab , * the fifteenth to Bilgah , the sixteenth to Immer , * the seventeenth to Hezir , the eighteenth to Aphses , * the nineteenth to Pethahiah , the twentieth to Jehezekel , * the twenty-first to Jachin , the twenty-second to Gamul , * the twenty-third to Delaiah , the twenty-fourth to Maaziah . * These [were ] their orderings in their service to come into the house of the LORD , according to their manner , to Aaron their father , as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him . * And the rest of the sons of Levi : Of the sons of Amram , Shubael ; of the sons of Shubael , Jehdeiah . * Concerning Rehabiah , of the sons of Rehabiah , the first [was ] Isshiah . * Of the Izharites , Shelomoth ; of the sons of Shelomoth , Jahath . * And the sons [of Hebron ]: Jeriah , Amariah the second , Jahaziel the third , Jekameam the fourth . * [Of ] the sons of Uzziel , Michah . Of the sons of Michah , Shamir . * The brother of Michah [was ] Isshiah . Of the sons of Isshiah , Zechariah . * The sons of Merari : Mahli and Mushi . The sons of Jaaziah , Beno . * The sons of Merari by Jaaziah : Beno , and Shoham , and Zaccur , and Ibri . * Of Mahli [was ] Eleazar , who had no sons . * Of Kish , the son of Kish [was ] Jerahmeel . * The sons of Mushi : Mahli , and Eder , and Jerimoth . These [were ] the sons of the Levites according to the house of their fathers . * And they also cast lots along with their brothers , the sons of Aaron , before David the king , and Zadok , and Ahimelech , and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites , the head of the fathers , as well as his younger brother . * And David and the army commanders separated to the service those of the sons of Asaph , and of Heman , and of Jeduthun , who [were ] prophets with lyres and with cymbals . And the number of the workmen according to their service was : * of the sons of Asaph , Zaccur , and Joseph , and Nethaniah , and Asarelah , the sons under the hands of Asaph , who prophesied according to the order of the king . * Of Jeduthun , the sons of Jeduthun : Gedaliah , and Zeri , and Jeshaiah , Hashabiah , and Mattithiah , [and Shimei ], six , under the hands of their father Jeduthun , who prophesied with the lyre to give thanks and to praise the LORD . * Of Heman , the sons of Heman : Bukkiah , Mattaniah , Uzziel , Shebuel , and Jerimoth , Hananiah , Hanani , Eliathah , Giddalti , and Romamti-ezer , Josh-bekashah , Mallothi , Hothir , Mahazioth . * All these [were ] the sons of Heman the king 's seer in the words of God , to lift up the horn . And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters . * All these [were ] under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD , with cymbals , harps and lyres , for the service of the house of God , according to the king 's order to Asaph , Jeduthun , and Heman . * So the number of them , with their brothers who [were ] instructed in the songs of the LORD , all that [were ] skillful , was two hundred and eighty-eight . * And they cast lots , for duty , the small as well as the great , the teacher as the pupil . * And the first lot came out for Asaph to Joseph ; the second was to Gedaliah , with his brothers and sons , twelve ; * the third [was ] to Zaccur , his sons and his brothers , twelve men ; * the fourth [was ] to Izri , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the fifth [was ] to Nethaniah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the sixth [was ] to Bukkiah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the seventh [was ] to Jesharelah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the eighth [was ] to Jeshaiah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the ninth [was ] to Mattaniah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the tenth [was ] to Shimei , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the eleventh [was ] to Azareel , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the twelfth [was ] to Hashabiah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the thirteenth [was ] to Shubael , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the fourteenth [was ] to Mattithiah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the fifteenth [was ] to Jeremoth , his sons and his brothers , twelve , * the sixteenth [was ] to Hananiah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the seventeenth [was ] to Joshbekashah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the eighteenth [was ] to Hanani , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the nineteenth [was ] to Mallothi , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the twentieth [was ] to Eliathah , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the twenty-first [was ] to Hothir , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the twenty-second [was ] to Giddalti , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the twenty-third [was ] to Mahazioth , his sons and his brothers , twelve ; * the twenty-fourth [was ] to Romamti-ezer , his sons and his brothers , twelve . * For the divisions of the gatekeepers : Of the Korahites : Meshelemiah the son of Kore , of the sons of Asaph .
