* My little children , I write this to you so that you may not sin . But if anyone does sin , we have an advocate with the Father , Jesus Christ the righteous . * And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins , and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world . * Now by this we know that we know him , if we keep his commandments . * He who says , »I know him ,« but does not keep his commandments , is a liar , and the truth is not in him . * But whoever keeps his word , truly the love of God is perfected in him . By this we know that we are in him : * he who says he abides in him ought to walk as he walked . * Beloved , I am writing you no new commandment , but an old commandment that you had from the beginning . If anyone loves the world , the love of the Father is not in him . * For all that is in the world —the lust of the flesh , and the lust of the eyes , and the pride of life —is not of the Father but is of the world . * And the world is passing away , and the lust of it ; but he who does the will of God abides forever . * Little children , it is the last hour ; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming , even now many antichrists have come ; by this we know that it is the last hour . * They went out from us , but they were not of us ; for if they had been of us , they would have continued with us ; but they went out that it might be plain that none of them were of us . * But you have an anointing from the Holy One , and you all know . * I write to you , not because you do not know the truth , but because you know it , and because no lie is of the truth . * Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ ? This is the Antichrist , he who denies the Father and the Son . * No one who denies the Son has the Father ; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also . * Let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning . If what you heard from the beginning abides in you , then you also will abide in the Son and in the Father . * And this is what he has promised us —eternal life . * These things I have written to you about those who try to deceive you . * But the anointing which you have received from him abides in you , and you do not need that anyone teach you ; but as his anointing teaches you about all things , and is true , and is not a lie , and just as it has taught you , abide in him . * And now , little children , abide in him , so that when he appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming . * If you know that he is righteous , you know that everyone who does right is born of him .
