* Which in time past were not a people , but are now the people of God : which had not obtained mercy (5772 ), but now have obtained mercy (5685 ). * Dearly beloved , I beseech (5719 ) you as strangers and pilgrims , abstain from (5733 ) fleshly lusts , which war (5731 ) against the soul ; * Having (5723 ) your conversation honest among the Gentiles : that , whereas they speak against (5719 ) you as evildoers , they may by your good works , which they shall behold (5660 ), glorify (5661 ) God in the day of visitation . * Submit yourselves (5649 ) to every ordinance of man for the Lords sake : whether it be to the king , as supreme (5723 ); * Or unto governors , as unto them that are sent (5746 ) by him for the punishment of evildoers , and for the praise of them that do well . * For so is (5748 ) the will of God , that with well doing (5723 ) ye may put to silence (5721 ) the ignorance of foolish men : * As free , and not using (5723 ) your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness , but as the servants of God . * Honour (5657 ) all men . Love (5720 ) the brotherhood . Fear (5737 ) God . Honour (5720 ) the king . * Servants , be subject (5746 ) to your masters with all fear ; not only to the good and gentle , but also to the froward . * For this is thankworthy , if a man for conscience toward God endure (5719 ) grief , suffering (5723 ) wrongfully .
