* But ye are a chosen generation , a royal priesthood , an holy nation , a peculiar people ; that ye should shew forth (5661 ) the praises of him who hath called (5660 ) you out of darkness into his marvellous light : * Which in time past were not a people , but are now the people of God : which had not obtained mercy (5772 ), but now have obtained mercy (5685 ). * Dearly beloved , I beseech (5719 ) you as strangers and pilgrims , abstain from (5733 ) fleshly lusts , which war (5731 ) against the soul ; * Having (5723 ) your conversation honest among the Gentiles : that , whereas they speak against (5719 ) you as evildoers , they may by your good works , which they shall behold (5660 ), glorify (5661 ) God in the day of visitation . * Submit yourselves (5649 ) to every ordinance of man for the Lords sake : whether it be to the king , as supreme (5723 );
