* Paul , an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour , and Lord Jesus Christ , which is our hope ; * Unto Timothy , my own son in the faith : Grace , mercy , and peace , from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord . * As I besought (5656 ) thee to abide still (5658 ) at Ephesus , when I went (5740 ) into Macedonia , that thou mightest charge (5661 ) some that they teach no other doctrine (5721 ), * Neither give heed (5721 ) to fables and endless genealogies , which minister (5719 ) questions , rather than godly edifying which is in faith : so do . * Now the end of the commandment is (5748 ) charity out of a pure heart , and of a good conscience , and of faith unfeigned : * From which some having swerved (5660 ) have turned aside (5648 ) unto vain jangling ; * Desiring (5723 ) to be (5750 ) teachers of the law ; understanding (5723 ) neither what they say (5719 ), nor whereof they affirm (5736 ). * But we know (5758 ) that the law is good , if a man use (5741 ) it lawfully ; * Knowing (5761 ) this , that the law is not made (5736 ) for a righteous man , but for the lawless and disobedient , for the ungodly and for sinners , for unholy and profane , for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers , for manslayers , * For whoremongers , for them that defile themselves with mankind , for menstealers , for liars , for perjured persons , and if there be any other thing that is contrary (5736 ) to sound (5723 ) doctrine ; * According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God , which was committed to my trust (5681 ). * And I thank (5719 ) Christ Jesus our Lord , who hath enabled (5660 ) me , for that he counted (5662 ) me faithful , putting me (5642 ) into the ministry ; * Who was (5752 ) before a blasphemer , and a persecutor , and injurious : but I obtained mercy (5681 ), because I did (5656 ) it ignorantly (5723 ) in unbelief . * And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant (5656 ) with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus . * This is a faithful saying , and worthy of all acceptation , that Christ Jesus came (5627 ) into the world to save (5658 ) sinners ; of whom I am (5748 ) chief . * Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy (5681 ), that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth (5672 ) all longsuffering , for a pattern to them which should hereafter (5723 ) believe (5721 ) on him to life everlasting . * Now unto the King eternal , immortal , invisible , the only wise God , be honour and glory for ever and ever . Amen . * This charge I commit (5731 ) unto thee , son Timothy , according to the prophecies which went before (5723 ) on thee , that thou by them mightest war (5735 ) a good warfare ; * Holding (5723 ) faith , and a good conscience ; which some having put away (5666 ) concerning faith have made shipwreck (5656 ): * Of whom is (5748 ) Hymenaeus and Alexander ; whom I have delivered (5656 ) unto Satan , that they may learn (5686 ) not to blaspheme (5721 ). * I exhort (5719 ) therefore , that , first of all , supplications , prayers , intercessions , and giving of thanks , be made (5745 ) for all men ; * For kings , and for all that are (5752 ) in authority ; that we may lead (5725 ) a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty . * For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour ; * Who will have (5719 ) all men to be saved (5683 ), and to come (5629 ) unto the knowledge of the truth . * For there is one God , and one mediator between God and men , the man Christ Jesus ; * Who gave (5631 ) himself a ransom for all , to be testified in due time . * Whereunto I am ordained (5681 ) a preacher , and an apostle , (I speak (5719 ) the truth in Christ , and lie (5736 ) not ;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity . * I will (5736 ) therefore that men pray (5738 ) every where , lifting up (5723 ) holy hands , without wrath and doubting . * In like manner also , that women adorn (5721 ) themselves in modest apparel , with shamefacedness and sobriety ; not with broided hair , or gold , or pearls , or costly array ; * But (which becometh (5719 ) women professing (5740 ) godliness ) with good works . * Let the woman learn (5720 ) in silence with all subjection . * But I suffer (5719 ) not a woman to teach (5721 ), nor to usurp authority (5721 ) over the man , but to be (5750 ) in silence . * For Adam was first formed (5681 ), then Eve . * And Adam was not deceived (5681 ), but the woman being deceived (5685 ) was (5754 ) in the transgression . * Notwithstanding she shall be saved (5701 ) in childbearing , if they continue (5661 ) in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety . * This is a true saying , If a man desire (5731 ) the office of a bishop , he desireth (5719 ) a good work .
