1Timothy:3-4

*
This is a true saying ,
If a man desire (
5731 )
the office of a bishop ,
he desireth (
5719 )
a good work .
*
A bishop then must (
5748 )
be (
5750 )
blameless ,
the husband of one wife ,
vigilant ,
sober ,
of good behaviour ,
given to hospitality ,
apt to teach ;
*
Not given to wine ,
no striker ,
not greedy of filthy lucre ;
but patient ,
not a brawler ,
not covetous ;
*
One that ruleth (
5734 )
well his own house ,
having (
5723 )
his children in subjection with all gravity ;
* (
For if a man know not how (
5758 )
to rule (
5629 )
his own house ,
how shall he take care of (
5695 )
the church of God ?)
*
Not a novice ,
lest being lifted up with pride (
5685 )
he fall (
5632 )
into the condemnation of the devil .
*
Moreover he must (
5748 )
have (
5721 )
a good report of them which are without ;
lest he fall (
5632 )
into reproach and the snare of the devil .
*
Likewise must the deacons be grave ,
not doubletongued ,
not given (
5723 )
to much wine ,
not greedy of filthy lucre ;
*
Holding (
5723 )
the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience .
*
And let these also first be proved (
5744 );
then let them use the office of a deacon (
5720 ),
being (
5752 )
found blameless .
*
Even so must their wives be grave ,
not slanderers ,
sober ,
faithful in all things .
*
Let the deacons be (
5749 )
the husbands of one wife ,
ruling (
5734 )
their children and their own houses well .
*
For they that have used the office of a deacon (
5660 )
well purchase (
5731 )
to themselves a good 2570 #
degree ,
and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus .
*
These things write I (
5719 )
unto thee ,
hoping (
5723 )
to come (
5629 )
unto thee shortly :
*
But if I tarry long (
5725 ),
that thou mayest know (
5762 )
how thou oughtest (
5748 )
to behave thyself (
5745 )
in the house of God ,
which is (
5748 )
the church of the living (
5723 )
God ,
the pillar and ground of the truth .
*
And without controversy great is (
5748 )
the mystery of godliness :
God was manifest (
5681 )
in the flesh ,
justified (
5681 )
in the Spirit ,
seen (
5681 )
of angels ,
preached (
5681 )
unto the Gentiles ,
believed on (
5681 )
in the world ,
received up (
5681 )
into glory .
*
Now the Spirit speaketh (
5719 )
expressly ,
that in the latter times some shall depart from (
5695 )
the faith ,
giving heed (
5723 )
to seducing spirits ,
and doctrines of devils ;
*
Speaking lies in hypocrisy ;
having their conscience seared with a hot iron (
5772 );
*
Forbidding (
5723 )
to marry (
5721 ),
and commanding to abstain from (
5733 )
meats ,
which God hath created (
5656 )
to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know (
5761 )
the truth .
*
For every creature of God is good ,
and nothing to be refused ,
if it be received (
5746 )
with thanksgiving :
*
For it is sanctified (
5743 )
by the word of God and prayer .
*
If thou put the brethren in remembrance (
5734 )
of these things ,
thou shalt be (
5704 )
a good minister of Jesus Christ ,
nourished up (
5746 )
in the words of faith and of good doctrine ,
whereunto thou hast attained (
5758 ).
*
But refuse (
5737 )
profane and old wives fables ,
and exercise (
5720 )
thyself rather unto godliness .
*
For bodily exercise profiteth (
5748 )
little :
but godliness is (
5748 )
profitable unto all things ,
having (
5723 )
promise of the life that now is ,
and of that which is to come (
5723 ).
*
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation .
*
For therefore we both labour (
5719 )
and suffer reproach (
5743 ),
because we trust (
5758 )
in the living (
5723 )
God ,
who is (
5748 )
the Saviour of all men ,
specially of those that believe .
*
These things command (
5720 )
and teach (
5720 ).
*
Let no man despise (
5720 )
thy youth ;
but be thou (
5737 )
an example of the believers ,
in word ,
in conversation ,
in charity ,
in spirit ,
in faith ,
in purity .
*
Till I come (
5736 ),
give attendance (
5720 )
to reading ,
to exhortation ,
to doctrine .
*
Neglect (
5720 )
not the gift that is in thee ,
which was given (
5681 )
thee by prophecy ,
with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery .
*
Meditate upon (
5720 )
these things ;
give thyself (
5749 )
wholly to them ;
that thy profiting may (
5753 )
appear to all .
*
Take heed (
5720 )
unto thyself ,
and unto the doctrine ;
continue (
5720 )
in them :
for in doing (
5723 )
this thou shalt both save (
5692 )
thyself ,
and them that hear (
5723 )
thee .
*
Rebuke (
5661 )
not an elder ,
but intreat (
5720 )
him as a father ;
and the younger men as brethren ;
