* Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons , * through the pretensions of liars , whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron , * who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth . * For everything created by God is good , and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving ; * for it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer . * If you point out these things to the brethren , you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus , constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed . * Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives ' tales ; rather , train yourself in godliness . * For bodily training is of some value , but godliness is of value in all things , as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come . * It is a trustworthy saying worthy of full acceptance . * For to this end we labor and strive , because we have our hope set on the living God , who is the Savior of all men , especially of those who believe . * Command and teach these things . * Let no one look down on your youth , but set the believers an example in speech and conduct , in love , in faith , in purity . * Until I come , devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture , to preaching and to teaching . * Do not neglect the gift you have , which was given you through prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands on you . * Be diligent in these matters ; give yourself wholly to them , so that all may see your progress . * Take heed to yourself and to your teaching ; persevere in them , for if you do , you will save both yourself and your hearers .
