* Paul , an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God , according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus , * To Timothy , my dearly beloved son : Grace , mercy , and peace , from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord . * I thank (5719 ) God , whom I serve (5719 ) from my forefathers with pure conscience , that without ceasing I have (5719 ) remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day ; * Greatly desiring (5723 ) to see (5629 ) thee , being mindful (5772 ) of thy tears , that I may be filled (5686 ) with joy ; * When I call (5723 ) to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee , which dwelt (5656 ) first in thy grandmother Lois , and thy mother Eunice ; and I am persuaded (5769 ) that in thee also . * Wherefore I put thee in remembrance (5719 ) that thou stir up (5721 ) the gift of God , which is (5748 ) in thee by the putting on of my hands . * For God hath not given (5656 ) us the spirit of fear ; but of power , and of love , and of a sound mind . * Be not thou therefore ashamed (5680 ) of the testimony of our Lord , nor of me his prisoner : but be thou partaker of the afflictions (5657 ) of the gospel according to the power of God ; * Who hath saved (5660 ) us , and called (5660 ) us with an holy calling , not according to our works , but according to his own purpose and grace , which was given (5685 ) us in Christ Jesus before the world began , * But is now made manifest (5685 ) by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ , who hath abolished (5660 ) death , and hath brought life and immortality to light (5660 ) through the gospel : * Whereunto I am appointed (5681 ) a preacher , and an apostle , and a teacher of the Gentiles . * For the which cause I also suffer (5719 ) these things : nevertheless I am not ashamed (5736 ): for I know (5758 ) whom I have believed (5758 ), and am persuaded (5769 ) that he is (5748 ) able to keep (5658 ) that which I have committed unto him against that day . * Hold fast (5720 ) the form of sound (5723 ) words , which thou hast heard (5656 ) of me , in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus . * That good thing which was committed unto thee keep (5657 ) by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth (5723 ) in us . * This thou knowest (5758 ), that all they which are in Asia be turned away from (5648 ) me ; of whom are (5748 ) Phygellus and Hermogenes . * The Lord give (5630 ) mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus ; for he oft refreshed (5656 ) me , and was not ashamed (5681 ) of my chain : * But , when he was (5637 ) in Rome , he sought me out (5656 ) very diligently , and found (5627 ) me . * The Lord grant (5630 ) unto him that he may find (5629 ) mercy of the Lord in that day : and in how many things he ministered unto me (5656 ) at Ephesus , thou knowest (5719 ) very well . * Thou therefore , my son , be strong (5744 ) in the grace that is in Christ Jesus . * And the things that thou hast heard (5656 ) of me among many witnesses , the same commit thou (5639 ) to faithful men , who shall be (5704 ) able to teach (5658 ) others also . * Thou therefore endure hardness (5657 ), as a good soldier of Jesus Christ . * No man that warreth (5734 ) entangleth himself (5743 ) with the affairs of this life ; that he may please (5661 ) him who hath chosen him to be a soldier (5660 ). * And if a man also strive (5725 ) for masteries , yet is he not crowned (5743 ), except he strive (5661 ) lawfully . * The husbandman that laboureth (5723 ) must be (5748 ) first partaker (5721 ) of the fruits . * Consider (5720 ) what I say (5719 ); and the Lord give (5630 ) thee understanding in all things . * Remember (5720 ) that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised (5772 ) from the dead according to my gospel : * Wherein I suffer trouble (5719 ), as an evil doer , even unto bonds ; but the word of God is not bound (5769 ). * Therefore I endure (5719 ) all things for the elects sakes , that they may also obtain (5632 ) the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory . * It is a faithful saying : For if we be dead with (5627 ) him , we shall also live with (5692 ) him : * If we suffer (5719 ), we shall also reign with (5692 ) him : if we deny (5736 ) him , he also will deny (5695 ) us : * If we believe not (5719 ), yet he abideth (5719 ) faithful : he cannot (5736 ) deny (5664 ) himself . * Of these things put them in remembrance (5720 ), charging (5740 ) them before the Lord that they strive not about words (5721 ) to no profit , but to the subverting of the hearers (5723 ). * Study (5657 ) to shew (5658 ) thyself approved unto God , a workman that needeth not to be ashamed , rightly dividing (5723 ) the word of truth . * But shun (5732 ) profane and vain babblings : for they will increase (5692 ) unto more ungodliness . * And their word will eat (5692 ) as doth a canker : of whom is (5748 ) Hymenaeus and Philetus ; * Who concerning the truth have erred (5656 ), saying (5723 ) that the resurrection is past (5755 ) already ; and overthrow (5719 ) the faith of some . * Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth (5707 ) (5758 ) sure , having (5723 ) this seal , The Lord knoweth (5627 ) them that are (5752 ) his . And , Let every one that nameth (5723 ) the name of Christ depart (5628 ) from iniquity . * But in a great house there are (5748 ) not only vessels of gold and of silver , but also of wood and of earth ; and some to honour , and some to dishonour . * If a man therefore purge (5661 ) himself from these , he shall be (5704 ) a vessel unto honour , sanctified (5772 ), and meet for the masters use , and prepared (5772 ) unto every good work . * Flee (5720 ) also youthful lusts : but follow (5720 ) righteousness , faith , charity , peace , with them that call on (5734 ) the Lord out of a pure heart . * But foolish and unlearned questions avoid (5737 ), knowing (5761 ) that they do gender (5719 ) strifes . * And the servant of the Lord must (5748 ) not strive (5738 ); but be (5750 ) gentle unto all men , apt to teach , patient , * In meekness instructing (5723 ) those that oppose themselves (5734 ); if God peradventure will give (5632 ) them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth ; * And that they may recover themselves (5661 ) out of the snare of the devil , who are taken captive (5772 ) by him at his will . * This know (5720 ) also , that in the last days perilous times shall come (5695 ).
