* Now when they had passed through (5660 ) Amphipolis and Apollonia , they came (5627 ) to Thessalonica , where was (5713 ) a synagogue of the Jews : * And Paul , as his manner was (5756 ), went in (5627 ) unto them , and three sabbath days reasoned (5711 ) with them out of the scriptures , * Opening (5723 ) and alleging (5734 ), that Christ must needs (5713 ) have suffered (5629 ), and risen again (5629 ) from the dead ; and that this Jesus , whom I preach (5719 ) unto you , is (5748 ) Christ . * And some of them believed (5681 ), and consorted (5681 ) with Paul and Silas ; and of the devout (5740 ) Greeks a great multitude , and of the chief women not a few . * But the Jews which believed not (5723 ), moved with envy (5660 ), took unto them (5642 ) certain lewd fellows of the baser sort , and gathered a company (5660 ), and set all the city on an uproar (5707 ), and assaulted (5631 ) the house of Jason , and sought (5707 ) to bring (5629 ) them out to the people . * And when they found (5631 ) them not , they drew (5707 ) Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city , crying (5723 ), These that have turned the world upside down (5660 ) are come (5748 ) hither also ; * Whom Jason hath received (5766 ): and these all do (5719 ) contrary to the decrees of Caesar , saying (5723 ) that there is (5750 ) another king , one Jesus . * And they troubled (5656 ) the people and the rulers of the city , when they heard (5723 ) these things . * And when they had taken (5631 ) security of Jason , and of the other , they let them go (5656 ). * And the brethren immediately sent away (5656 ) Paul and Silas by night unto Berea : who coming (5637 ) thither went (5713 ) into the synagogue of the Jews . * These were (5713 ) more noble than those in Thessalonica , in that they received (5662 ) the word with all readiness of mind , and searched (5723 ) the scriptures daily , whether those things were (5722 ) so . * Therefore many of them believed (5656 ); also of honourable women which were Greeks , and of men , not a few . * But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge (5627 ) that the word of God was preached (5648 ) of Paul at Berea , they came (5627 ) thither also , and stirred up (5723 ) the people . * And then immediately the brethren sent away (5656 ) Paul to go (5738 ) as it were to the sea : but Silas and Timotheus abode there still (5707 ). * And they that conducted (5723 ) Paul brought (5627 ) him unto Athens : and receiving (5631 ) a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come (5632 ) to him with all speed , they departed (5713 ).
