jub - Acts:26-27

jub@Acts:26:1 @ Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand and answered for himself:

jub@Acts:26:2 @ I esteem myself blessed, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee concerning all the things of which I am accused of the Jews,

jub@Acts:26:3 @ especially [because I know] thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews; therefore, I beseech thee to hear me patiently.

jub@Acts:26:4 @ My manner of life from my youth, which from the beginning was among my own nation at Jerusalem, is known of all the Jews,

jub@Acts:26:5 @ who knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most perfect sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

jub@Acts:26:6 @ And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers;

jub@Acts:26:7 @ unto which [promise] our twelve tribes, constantly serving [God] day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

jub@Acts:26:8 @ Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you that God should raise the dead?

jub@Acts:26:9 @ I verily had thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

jub@Acts:26:10 @ Which things I also did in Jerusalem, and I shut up many of the saints in prison, having received authority from the princes of the priests, and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against [them].

jub@Acts:26:11 @ And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled [them] to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted [them] even unto foreign cities.

jub@Acts:26:12 @ Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the princes of the priests,

jub@Acts:26:13 @ at midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and those who journeyed with me.

jub@Acts:26:14 @ And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why dost thou persecute me? [It is] hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

jub@Acts:26:15 @ And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou dost persecute.

jub@Acts:26:16 @ But rise and stand upon thy feet, for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen and of those things in which I will appear unto thee;

jub@Acts:26:17 @ delivering thee from the people and [from] the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee

jub@Acts:26:18 @ to open their eyes [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified by the faith that is in me.

jub@Acts:26:19 @ Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision,

jub@Acts:26:20 @ but I announced first unto those of Damascus and at Jerusalem and throughout all the coasts of Judaea and [then] to the Gentiles that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

jub@Acts:26:21 @ For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple and went about to kill [me].

jub@Acts:26:22 @ Having, therefore, obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said should come:

jub@Acts:26:23 @ that the Christ should suffer [and] that he should be the first that should rise from the dead and should show light unto this people and to the Gentiles.

jub@Acts:26:24 @ And as he spoke these things and [answered] for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.

jub@Acts:26:25 @ But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus, but speak forth words of truth and temperance.

jub@Acts:26:26 @ For the king knows of these things, before whom I also speak freely; for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him, for this thing was not done in a corner.

jub@Acts:26:27 @ King Agrippa, dost thou believe the prophets? I know that thou believest.

jub@Acts:26:28 @ Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

jub@Acts:26:29 @ And Paul said, I desire before God that by little or by much, not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were such as I am, except these bonds.

jub@Acts:26:30 @ And when he had said these things, the king rose up and the governor and Bernice and those that sat with them;

jub@Acts:26:31 @ and when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.

jub@Acts:26:32 @ Then Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty if he had not appealed unto Caesar.:

jub@Acts:27:1 @ But when it was determined that we should sail unto Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto [one] named Julius, a centurion of the Augustus company.

jub@Acts:27:2 @ And entering into the ship, Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia, [one] Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

jub@Acts:27:3 @ And the next [day] we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul and gave [him] liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

jub@Acts:27:4 @ And when we had launched from there, we sailed under Cyprus because the winds were contrary.

jub@Acts:27:5 @ And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, [a city] of Lycia.

jub@Acts:27:6 @ And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy, and he put us in it.

jub@Acts:27:7 @ And when we had sailed slowly many days and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not allowing us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone,

jub@Acts:27:8 @ and, passing it with difficulty, came unto a place which is called The Fair Havens, near which was the city [of] Lasea.

jub@Acts:27:9 @ Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished [them],

jub@Acts:27:10 @ saying, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

jub@Acts:27:11 @ Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

jub@Acts:27:12 @ And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, many were in agreement to depart from there also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice [and] winter [there, which is] a port of Crete and lies toward Africa and the west.

jub@Acts:27:13 @ And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained [their] purpose, raising [sails], they sailed close by Crete.

jub@Acts:27:14 @ But not long after, there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

jub@Acts:27:15 @ And when the ship was caught up [by it] and could not resist against the wind, [the ship] was taken by [the wind and] drifted.

jub@Acts:27:16 @ And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat,

jub@Acts:27:17 @ Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into Syrtis, struck sail and so were driven.

jub@Acts:27:18 @ And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next [day] they lightened the ship;

jub@Acts:27:19 @ and the third [day] with our own hands we cast off the dead works of the ship.

jub@Acts:27:20 @ And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved was then lost.

jub@Acts:27:21 @ Then after long abstinence, Paul stood forth in the midst of them and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me and not have loosed from Crete to have avoided this harm and loss.

jub@Acts:27:22 @ And now I exhort you to be of good cheer, for there shall be no loss of any person's life among you, but only of the ship.

jub@Acts:27:23 @ For the angel of God stood by me this night, whose I am and whom I serve,

jub@Acts:27:24 @ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar; and, behold, God has given thee all those that sail with thee.

jub@Acts:27:25 @ Therefore, sirs, be of good cheer; for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

jub@Acts:27:26 @ However we must be cast upon a certain island.

jub@Acts:27:27 @ And when the fourteenth night was come as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic sea, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country

jub@Acts:27:28 @ and sounded and found [it] twenty fathoms; and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again and found [it] fifteen fathoms.

jub@Acts:27:29 @ Then fearing lest we should fall upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern and wished for the day.

jub@Acts:27:30 @ And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

jub@Acts:27:31 @ Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

jub@Acts:27:32 @ Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat and let her fall off.

jub@Acts:27:33 @ And while the day was coming on, Paul besought [them] all to take food, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have waited and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

jub@Acts:27:34 @ Therefore I pray you to take [some] food, for this is for your [salvation and] health, for there shall not one hair fall from the head of any of you.

jub@Acts:27:35 @ And when he had thus spoken, he took bread and gave thanks to God in presence of them all; and when he had broken [it], he began to eat.

jub@Acts:27:36 @ Then they were all of good cheer, and they also took [some] food.

jub@Acts:27:37 @ And we were in all, in the ship, two hundred and seventy-six souls.

jub@Acts:27:38 @ And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and cast out the grain into the sea.

jub@Acts:27:39 @ And when it was day, they did not recognize the land, but they discovered a certain gulf with a shore, into which they decided, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

jub@Acts:27:40 @ And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed [themselves] unto the sea and loosed the rudder bands and hoisted up the mainsail to the wind and made toward shore.

jub@Acts:27:41 @ But falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast and remained unmovable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

jub@Acts:27:42 @ And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out and escape.

jub@Acts:27:43 @ But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, frustrated this counsel and commanded that those who could swim should cast [themselves] first [into the sea] and get to land;

jub@Acts:27:44 @ and the rest, some on boards and some on [broken pieces] of the ship. And so it came to pass that they were all saved [by making it] to land.:

jub@Acts:28:1 @ And when they were escaped, then we knew that the island was called Melita.
